I have 1 deer point in Wyoming and have been researching on Gohunt to find a decent unit to hunt whitetails. I have found that most good areas are mostly private, but some do have some walk in hunting access. Has anyone hunted public land whitetails in Wyoming that is willing to give info on a good unit?
I can trade info on elk and deer here in Utah and Elk in Colorado if that helps.

Thanks

I don't know anything like local WY people would, but I've seen tons of white tails and great bucks up near the Wheatland area, while traveling for work.

Region A up in the Black Hills is the spot for whitetails. not the best trophies, but still a decent hunt. Several spots there that have deer in decent numbers. Like other hunts, walk and get away from the roads.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-04-17 AT 05:27PM (MST)[p]Whitetails like river bottoms which are usually on private property. I recently moved to eastern Wyoming and I am having a semi-difficult time locating good whitetail populations on public lands. There seems to be more accessible on public land in the northeast corner of the state.

I made a search years ago for the same thing and could not find good public land whitetail hunting in Wyoming. All of the good bucks were, as mentioned, in the river bottoms on private land. I agree the black hills may be the best public land area, but certainly not the best hunting. I know some guys who go with a reasonably priced land owner that have done well.

You might look up west of the Bighorns. Greybull, Powell area have produced some decent whitetails, East of Cody also has some with some public access. Some ranchers in eastern Wyoming will allow whitetail hunting for more reasonably priced trespass fee. Call and ask.
