Now if they can just enforce it, including private ground. There are areas to the south that are really in pretty good shape for wintering herds but they'll get pounded if it's not a statewide ban. Good call.

Spotting scope and a camera, see someone shed hunting take pics of them and their rig

I Still remember the Year they Tried Closing it out on the Wasatch!

The Law-Breakin Bitttcchhes Gathered all the Sheds up during the Closure & I never heard of any Citations?

Pretty sure February 7th is on a Tuesday. Not Thursday.

That'll Give the Shed Heads a couple of Free Days!:D

So?

My Question is this!

Say I'm headed up the Road & There's a PISSCUTTER Shed in the Middle of the Road!

Do I?

Get Out & Put it in the Tool Box?

Get Out & Throw it off the Road?

Throw it Off the Road & GPS the Exact Location?

Call one of the Local Shed Heads that'll Load them no matter the Law?

Call a DWR Official to come & Get a 1.50 Antler While Burning 50.00 worth of Fuel to get it?

Bessy, I think if you were to go and try to do some of the stuff you mentioned just for a piscutter shed, you have bigger problems to worry about than the shed! :p

I'd bet $10 this season doesn't apply to the WLH gang. I'm sure he's already called and got the go ahead from the biologist in price

Why just the closure of Shed Hunting? Why not close it to snowmobiles? Why not close it to tree huggers? Why not close it to Protesters? Why not close it to Snow Plows? Why not close it to Bird watchers? There are alot of others things that cause stress on these animals. Why single out the shed guys?

Because behind every restrictive new regulation is someone's good intentions which largely serves no productive cause other than create warm fuzzy feelings.

If we can somehow convince those 4 legged predators to stop chasing our stressed out deer and elk. But, no problem because the deer and elk only run 20 or so yards from a coyote compared to miles and miles when approached by homosapiens. Our brilliant Govt trying to legislate us to stupidity.

Something I thought about is if I have private land and a good chunk where deer and elk winter and I see a shed I'm going to pick it up. Because if it's my land how will the dnr stop me if I'm not going to let them on my land. And for all they know the sheds in the bed of the truck came from nevada, arizona or idaho and if they didn't see me pick them up they can't do a thing about it. My guess is people with land where deer and elk will probably wait for a bit anyhow seeing as the sheds more than likely aren't going anywhere. My point is that no one is gonna let an 80" single, 2 point , or decent 3 point or any shed just sit off the side of the road they are gonna pick it up. I think people will just have their wife or buddy drop them off on some of these wintering grounds and have the mountain to themselves. Also I'm sure that people are going to get camoed up or go in at night. I just think it's going to be really tough to police for the dnr and it's going to take alot of help from hunters. I hope that all shed hunters are respectful of the law and keep in their mind that it's in the best interest of insuring the survival and keeping winter mortality down. So good luck to everyone who waits until april 1st. For those of you who go out before I hope you get food poisoning LOL.

Great I can already tell a bunch of U-Tards are going to flow into Colorado like Locust and use ATVs to track up all our winter grounds as well.

I am all for rules and laws that can be enforced and if those carry a significant penalty to actually slow/stop the issue.

Oh well. Just wait until the deer are in good shape. Around here a couple more weeks like the last 2 and things will be fine.

Hope they say if video evidence will be accepted to punish people! Also what is the fine/punishment going to be if caught?

Haven't seen anything yet. Today the 2017 Antler Gathering Ethics Course has a section where you must acknowledge that the 11 counties are closed. I'm sure they will change that soon. If you live in St. George, you may want to take that course now before the course becomes your official notice of a statewide ban.

I think this a good idea i would much rather wait to hunt sheds and have a healthy deer and elk herd than see them pushed on their winter grounds don't be greedy guy's back off and give them some space to get through the winter.

That means the DWR and the DNR boys have the hole state to them self.Come April 1st there won't be horn left

Problem is this is just like gun control. The ones chasing the deer around will still be out shed hunting chasing deer around. the only ones that are affected by this is the honest horn hunters.

Closing off shed hunting will definitely keep the majority of people out of the areas that this regulation is intended for. No doubt about it. It will also enable law enforcement to key in on certain areas. Chipped horns? Maybe! Sting operations? Oh yeah. Keep an eye out for the man, horn poachers! How fun would it be looking over your shoulder every 10 seconds to see if anyone is watching you??

Yes...just like Wyoming, you will have those that will try to figure out a way around this law; just like all other laws. Some will get busted; some won't.

Wyoming has busted several folks over the past couple of years. The fine isn't that terrible( too bad it's not more), but the loss of hunting privileges is...

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-17 AT 12:25PM (MST)[p]The snow is melting pretty fast now. Maybe they jumped the gun a little.

Maybe they should have started with just Feb.

In THEORY I am all for the restriction. In practice it is not good. Before when they closed it down it was bad. I waited like a lot of other people, only to find out that many didn't.
