Well my neighbor drew a bookcliffs deer tag he's a bishop. I told him I should start paying some tithing and maybe i'll get lucky in the utah draw. He told me an extra 2% is how he drew his lol. I wish the server wasn't down so I could see who else I know that drew a tag at the show.

Her Antelope tag and elk tag are at the same time. Maybe she will turn one back in? Then her cougar tag.

So what well connected SFW shill or commercialized Utah hunter got a super duper tag this year? Every year there is a couple

Not sure if it is the same Jared Peay who is a chapter chair for SFW but a Jared Peay drew Vernon deer. (I personally don't have a problem with this guy. Just an observation. I put in for the same tag as well.)

...and Heidee Latham....seriously? 3 tags in the same year. Hmm.

Our group pulled two elk tags for early rifle. Nebo and book cliffs bitter creek.
Looks like my plans are made for elk this year!

Do you guys know if they are supposed to send an email if you're successfully? My name is down for a tag I put in for, but there is another guy with my same name in my city.

Hi Landon.

I apologize for the new username, it has been 3 years since I was last year and forgot all my user info. I'm breaking my own rule by even being here however, Since you drug me in, I will respond.

I might not be man of the year, I work hard and do what I can for others . I do try to treat everyone as I like to be treated. I am fiercely loyal to my friends and family, I extend that to really anyone who shows the same in return. I value friend ships and even educated adversaries.

Let me address your comment now, You called me a DB. We do not know each other, never met in person. You opinions of me are biased solely on social media arguments, where in fact you have called me everything from a DB to a Mfer in open forums. and PM's ( yes I have them )

I will close with this and try not to get caught up in your B.S. again.

I am one of the nicest guys around, and would do anything for just about anyone. If I am a DB or Mfer to you. OWN IT!! Because, Trust me when I say this. You earned it!

Bessy, "a few" from the basin? A few? 18 tags pulled by folks in the Basin! How do you not draw expo tags? It should be a given for you.

Of course there are some eyebrow raisers in the results, just like every year. It is what it is. I continue to play their game because I just love to hunt and want a tag. It sucks, hopefully one day the system can change.

Jared, that is a complete LIE! I have Never called you Mfer and you know it. I am going to leave this subject alone, but let it be clear, I HAVE NEVER CALLED YOU THAT NAME EVER!!!

We have disagreed on alot of things pertaining to the EXPO. You may be nice and the nicest guy around, but we have not seen eye to eye on this subject and I have never called you that name. Others...yes, but the Mfer, NO!!!

J_P-

Welcome back. The real questions are why have you boycotted this site for the last three years and why do you have a personal "rule" against being on these forums? I have heard that from several SFW insiders. They all seem to follow these forums but they view MM.com as enemy territory and rarely post. This is a great site with plenty of sportsmen discussing hunting and other important issues. Now that you have a functioning account, feel free to join in and contribute. I for one appreciate opposing opinions and, like you, I particularly enjoy discussions with "educated adversaries". Surely SFW does not want to leave tristate to serve as its spokesman on this website. Plus, DC and M73 could use some reinforcements. So stick around and participate. Perhaps you can help us better understand SFW's position on stream access and the transfer of public lands? And congrats on drawing a tag.

-Hawkeye-

I used to hate the expo tag system, that was when I was drawing anything. I drew Wasatch late Elk, so now I love it and think its a great conservation tool!!

Seriously though, today is my birthday and I drew a good expo tag!!! Yeehaw

I've been wanting to go to the Expo for quite some time. Was looking forward to going in 2018. But I wont be going.

Nothing for me, my boys or my brothers but my good friend drew the Henries Bison tag. He is a shed hunting machine and knows the Henries well. Some of you may have seen his 240" shed buck that was on display at Paul Pennies taxidermy booth at the expo entrance. His wife drew a Bison cow tag a few years ago and they got a great cow. They wouldn't have been successful if he hadn't known the Henries so well from shed hunting. He knew where the bison had holed up after they disappeared from their normal hang outs. His bull tag should be a fun hunt that I hope to participate in - in some fashion. His lifetime hunting partner has a son-in-law that didn't hunt until he married his daughter. Well the son-in-law drew one of the Henries deer expo tags. I think this will be his first deer and he'll be ruined after a Henries hunt.

Has anyone that drew an expo tag actually been notified that they were successful? Just like 257Tony, I too see my name on one of tags I put in for but haven't received an email or phone call.

Congrats to all the people that drew a tag. I go every year and donate my money and I've yet to draw a tag. I know people that's drew a couple of tags over the years and the lady who drew 3 this year. I have no problem with that I wish I was that lucky The problem I have is the out of state people draw what I consider is a resident once in lifetime tag every year. They have there tags for nonresident and we can't put in for them but they can put in for are tags and every year they draw one of the residence tags just like this year both Moose tags went to nonresident. And it happens about every year. It's not fair to the residents. So I will piss and mown and be there next year.

Arns, the tags raffled off at the Expo are taken from the non-resident pools of tags. So its more than fair to the residents.

Hawkeye.

I used to come here daily. I used to love the non biased conversations of hunting and tips tricks trade secrets. I posted photos and enjoyed seeing others. This place used to exite me.

Then this place changed. And after awhile so did i. The hate here is contagious and does not wash off.

There is nothing but blind hate. Men crying that this aint fair. That aint fair. And good ole boys gang raping new comers who happen to ask a question that was taboo. Making threats here and ultimately in person.

The 100% full on assault against the SWF. While fighting tooth an claw for the RMEF. IS sickening. Like CNN news coverage of the presidential election. Biased news paid for by one group. Seriously. Look at the posts. They should change the name from monstermulies. To hatethesfw.com it would be much more accurate.

There is no bias here. There is no middle. Only blind hate, lies and intimidation.

After reading the crap all day i was like. Why???

So i took myself out of it and never looked back. Till today. When a good freind mentioned my name being slandered yet again. By the same good ole boys.

Nothing has changed. In fact from the time here today it is only worse.

Each year i put my 100 in the expo tags. 100 for wife and 50 for kids. This year i got very lucky. And what do i get for it? while exited beyond belief. Some lying POS who enjoys calling me a DB.

And why? Because we have different opinions. Classy.

HalfAce. Please explain to me if there is 2 moose tags and the nonresidents get one tag that residents can't put in for. Then a nonresident draws the other tag how is that more than fair to a resident.

"Blind hate, gang rape, threats, intimidation, lies and bias news paid for by one group"? Don't you think you are being a little dramatic?

I've had plenty of SFW supporters jump all over me with ridiculous personal attacks. If you believe that you are on the right side of the issues then you will stick to your guns instead of taking your ball and going home. From my perspective, many of the SFW supporters have left these forums because they don't have good answers to the tough questions. Stick around and educate the rest of us on what we are missing.

I'm a long-time MM'er who generally follows the debates about SFW without contributing much. But my son & I flew 1500 miles & attended the expo for the first time this year and enjoyed it. The place was packed, especially on Saturday. But even for those of us who may hold a neutral position on the "Utah Model" it's very difficult to understand the failure of SFW officers to participate in the discussions on this board. Why not? That absence further reinforces Hawkeye's arguments wrt lack of transparency. And gives the appearance that the SFW is dismissing the input of average sportsmen as not worthy of their time. As if to say, "those MM guys can b!tch all day long, but we're in the catbird seat and can do whatever we want". Actually some intelligent, non-aggressive debate on a forum like this could do wonders for both sides of the argument. Why pass up the opportunity? You might want to get rid of the 'Tool from Texas' first though. Then have a fresh start at it. When you 'take your ball and run home' what you're really doing is dismissing and alienating the average knucklehead like myself.

Arns, all 200 tags raffled off at the Expo are taken from the non-resident pools of tags. If the Expo didn't exist, those 200 tags would all be issued to non-residents through the state draws. There are no tags raffled off at the expo which are pulled from Utah resident tag pools. From the 200 tags raffled, only 26 went to non residents. The other 174 tags went to residents of Utah, tags that Utahn's would not have access to if it weren't for the Expo.

So both Moose tags you mention normally would be drawn out for non-residents in the state draw. But since they pull those 2 Moose tags from the state draw to raffle at the Expo, one that would NOT normally be available for residents is made a free for all, while the other one is saved just for non-residents. It just so happened that this year the free for all Moose tag was drawn by a non-resident. I would assume that they set one Moose raffle tag aside just for non-residents because as you can see, 7 of every 8 tags goes to residents, while 1 of ever 8 tags goes to non-residents.

So 174 tags going to residents of Utah that would otherwise never go to them, makes me believe this is more than fair for the residents.

Sticksender-

Your comment is spot on. I agree the Expo can be a fun event but I choose to no longer attend because I refuse to support and contribute to the problem.

If you been around this forum a while then you probably remember the good old days when Troy, John and other high ranking SFW members frequented this site and participated in our discussions. Unfortunately, most of them no longer participate. Many of them follow our discussions but they don't usually post. As one SFW member explained to me some time ago, they don't want to "engage us on our turf."

From my perspective, this is largely the result of the Expo Tag issue. SFW and MDF faced difficult questions on this usual for several years and never really had any good answers. Other issues, including stream access, transfer of public lands, lobbying $ for BGF, etc., also led to difficult questions.

From SFW's perspective, they have a new 5 year Expo Tag contract with an option for an additional 5 years. They control the wildlife board. They have powerful allies in the DWR, the legislature and the governor's office. Why waste their time arguing with average joe knuckleheads about issues that are not very flattering to their cause. As you stated, they are currently in the catbird seat and don't need to engage with us.

That being said, I appreciate guys like M73, JMO and even lumpy who stick around and engage in discussion and debate. Let's hope more SFW members get involved in our discussions. Dialogue is a good thing.

Halface, I'm not sure it's correct that all 200 tags come out of the NR allotment. I've heard people say this, but I don't believe that's true.

I've wondered that too. It would be easy to figure out, just add every single tag (unit by unit, species by species) into the NR pool and see if it would raise the NR quota to over 10% of the total. If it does equal more than 10%, then those tags should be in the Resident pool

I just haven't taken the time to look it up.

PS. My understanding is there are situations where NR should get 1 tag when the unit quota is less than 10. But if the unit quota is more than 10 then the NR should not get more than 10% of the tags in that unit (or species in the case of OIL tags).

The way it works is like this:

Each year each LE hunt and OIL species is allocated a certain number of tags overall (depending on the population counts, buck to doe ratios, hunter success rates, winterkill, etc.), then about 5%-7% of those tags are designated as Conservation tags which are to be auctioned off by MDF, SFW, RMEF, etc. at their banquets and events. Then another 5% (or so) is given to the Expo for the drawing. It's only AFTER those tags are removed from the overall allotment that we get the 90% resident/10% nonresident split.

For instance, both Panguitch Lake LE Elk any weapon hunts (early and late) had around 24 or 25 tags allocated overall. 1 or 2 of those tags in each unit becomes Conservation tags and 1 in each unit becomes an Expo tag. That leaves 22 tags for the regular public draw and 20 of those tags become resident tags while 2 of those tags become nonresident tags.

In other words, those Expo tags are removed from the overall quota, not just from the nonresident quota.

Of course, the numbers may vary a little because the percentages are not hard line numbers, but "guidelines" as I was once told at a Wildlife Board meeting. But you get the idea!

EFA, I didn't realize the NR quota was pulled from the entire allotment of tags (including Conservation Tags). Thanks for clarifying that, it probably saved somebody a bunch of time going through everything.

You're welcome. I wasn't sure either until I asked about it at the Wildlife Board meeting I mentioned. In any case, I also looked at the 2015 draw odds and saw that there was a final 90/10 split there also. So neither residents nor nonresidents are being stiffed. (Or they both are, depending on how you view those Conservation and/or Expo tags.):)

I seen there were 4 tags allocated to NR only. Does anyone know what those odds were?

Thanks for your time

What are the chances of one of these tags ever getting turned back in.you would think somewhere along the way of the expos history that someone would have gotten deployed became sick or for one reason or another not been able to use the tag. What happens to the tag

They have alternates drawn. The next one in line. Also you can't have two elk tags, so you would need to choose, and the remaining tag goes to the first alternate.
