I WILL BE HUNTING TURKEYS TOWARDS THE END OF THIS MONTH, IN REALLY GOOD HOG COUNTRY. MY REM, 870 PUMP HAS A SCREW IN CHOKE THAT WORKS WELL. I THOUGHT I WOULD CARRY A FEW SLUGS IN CASE I RAN INTO A HOG, DO I HAVE TO REMOVE THE CHOKE TO SHOOT THE SLUG ROUND ??? WONDERING IF ITS GOING TO WRECK MY CHOKE OR MY BARREL???? THANKS FOR THE ADVICE......YD.

I wouldn't run a slug thru anything tighter than a modified choke tube. And I suspect you'll have an extra full turkey choke. Is triple 0 buck legal for hogs where you'll be hunting? Would be an option.

Most 870's are Not Slug Guns!

OK..........SOUNDS LIKE GOOD ADVICE. I WILL TAKE SOME OO BUCK LOAD. DOES THAT SOUND LIKE IT WOULD SHOOT OK ???? THANKS AGAIN FELLAS............YD.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-06-17 AT 09:26PM (MST)[p] Because You Can't Shoot F'N Lead in KALI!:D

And!
Because a Friend of Mine tried it with a Full Choke & Destroyed the Barrel!

Some 870's will be OK I Think if they have the Chokes like YUKON Has!

What DW said. A slug is fine out of a modified choke in a 870. Get the rifled slugs, not sabots. I killed a big cow elk with mine at 50 yards this year. Worked great. mtmuley

I Can tell Ya one more Gun Not to shoot them in!

Only because it Hurt!:D

Friend had this Real Nice Single Shot Beretta!

He Hated the Gun!

Was Always Saying:

WTF are you gonna do with a Single Shot?

So We Cut it Down!

On Both Ends!

Was a Cute little F'R when We got done with it!

We Nick-Named it "SUCKER-PUNCH"!

When We Went Shooting Skeet We'd Get it Out & Shoot it!

Always Using 2-3/4" Real Light Loads/7-1/2's & 8's!

Never Failed!

Somebody would always Ask:Any Chance I can Try/Shoot it?

Why Sure!

Then We'd Slip in a High Brass 3" Magnum!

Little SOB Bloodied alot of Lips in it's Day!:D

Having an extremely Short Barrel/Sawed-Off there was No problem Shooting Slugs out of this Gun!

If You Could Hold on to it!:D

YD don't get caught in the field with slugs or buck shot if your turkey hunting California! Can't have it with you even with legal intentions.

Take a pistol of sufficient caliber for hogs with you while turkey hunting. If you are in the "Condor" zone of CA. will have to use non lead bullets.

RELH

YES.......NON TOXIC/ NO LEAD IN THE CONDOR ZONES FOR SURE. MIGHT JUST STICK WITH MY STEEL TURKEY LOAD EVEN THOUGH ITS PRIVATE GROUND..........YD.

Hey YUKON!

I Think with the Right Ammo & the Right Choke/Gun You'd be Fine!

Didn't wanna have you Think I Was Trying to Scare You!

I'm Sure My Friend Should not of been Shooting the Ammo/in the Full Choke 870!

Ever Since I seen what it done to His Barrel I decided I wasn't gonna try Slugs in My 870 with Full Choke!

Our Guns are Old Though & Do not have the Threaded/Interchangeable Choke Design!
