Savage 116 .300 Rum blowing up? Let's truly answer this remark.

Awhile back I read on this forum a crazy statement both about the .300 RUM and the Savage chambered for the cartridge blowing up. There also was a Statement about the receivers being made in China.

I own the very model made by Savage chambered in .300 RUM. I have fired countless rounds through it and have never had any issues. Also the receivers are in fact made in the USA. I have to agree with other responses that it was most likely the user and his handloads. Savage has a brilliant customer support service.
Also this model has proven itself to be both extremely reliable and accurate.

So the receivers are NOT made in China. And no one else's 116's have ever blown up. The 3 that did fail were proven to be due to the reloads and over tamping powder. And Savage has confirmed this.

These rifles are safe!

And they do back them if it is something they have done wrong. There has never been a safety recall on this model. So if you own one or wish to purchase a used one as they do not offer the 300 rum in the 16's anymore. You can feel safe with the purchase you have made.

And I am happy to be part of this forum. I am going to love it here .. There is some awesome information on this forum and the knowledge given by its members has been vital to many of my hunting situations. So I value the members experience .

Thank you. Nice to meet ya all. ;-)

Darwin-

That is a great rebuttal . . . but to what? Can anyone provide the link to the earlier thread that apparently called into question Savage .300 RUM?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-08-17 AT 01:53PM (MST)[p]Hmm? Haha I guess I am the lucky one witg 100's of rounds through mine without a hickup other than the silly muzzle brake.

My new interest in Savage is the Predator 6.5 Creedmore..

I wouldn't buy a Savage .300 RUM on a bet. And why is this guy all of a sudden here at MM defending the Savage? mtmuley

I sure wish there was a like/dislike button on here.

I don't understand why new posters always get this crap. It's like they can't possibly have anything positive to contribute because they're a FNG.

It's also the reason many leave the site or don't post.

Maybe he works for Savage and wants to clear the air?

Welcome to MM!!

I didn't mind his post but I had no clue what we was responding to. I was just looking for the original post so his comments would have some context. Little did I know the original thread was 3 1/2 years old.

-Hawkeye-

Fair enough . 3 1/2 year old threads. Being new doesn't excuse me from not seeing the date of the original post. To me it seemed only a few months old.

I will stand behind my Savages. I also have several other firearms that are not Savages. But saying things on a forum such as they explode or receivers made in China seems a bit out of line as well.
If you dont like Savages.Fine, that is a opinion I can accept. I have some values. I won't purchase a Remlin, Winchester is dead, Ruger has some pretty horrible bolts and Browning ?well okay but not really since they left Belgium. So what do you all shoot? Pre 64 Winchester rifles? Cool!Hope you don't fall and break them stocks. So what else do we have? Weatherby? Awesome I own 2. Both German.
Most of you shoot James Purdey & Sons?Be surprised if half of you even have a clue. Most of you probably shoot muleys in the ass!
From the sounds of it I am surprised you all don't fall out of your C class to hunt over someone's fence.

Now if you're insulted.Good! Because that was intentional.

Let me know where the adults are on this forum and I will head over to that area.

FNG to this forum but not to hunting .

Feel free to point at the fng.. "tips hat"

I honestly didn't know it was that old either and feel moronic enough over it.

And to answer another members question , no I don't work for Savage.

I was simply stating I have put countless rounds through mine with no issues.

I hunted with a German .300 Wby for years till I decided to go with something new that I need not worry about destroying. I have a old 375 H&H. But I gave it to my oldest when I left Kodiak. I have a Winchester Alaskan in .338 Wm which I love. But purchased the .300 for decent distance shots. And have taken several elk.

I have a old 1886 winchester but for obvious reason don't use it to hunt with anymore which pains me so.

Anyway I feel stupid enough. I honestly didn't know it was that old of a post. But no I won't back down on my Savage .300 rum. It's proven itself.

Seems we pissed Darwin off. Hey Darwin, I bought my first RUM in 2000. Remington. Still have it. No issues of Chinese steel blowing up. Internet caused or otherwise. If this makes you mad, you aren't cut out for MM. mtmuley

Remington? You meant Freedom group right? I am not mad. But then again I wasn't the one that bought a Remington..

But seriously. Rem 700's have a good reputation. Can not fault them.

I forgot to add I was actively looking for a Remington 700 bdl chambered in .300 RUM for awhile. I couldn't find one and ended up with the 116. We get what is available to us.

When I lived in Ak I helped to relocate problem bears. One was a bastard of a boar. We nicknamed him Darwinsmistake because it seemed evolution was not part of his heritage. We relocated him to Denali and some moron killed him for his claws. So it has just been what I have used to always remember him and my grand time there.

And Savage still could put more care and thought into more of their designs. Their detachable magazines for instance. They suck!

I wish I was able to answer that because it's bothered me for years. After 2 years there was no news on the case and of course they had new cases to deal with.

I understand the hunts, I even understand dealing with threats. But this was not the case. Poaching I don't agree with. That being said I do know of a few Alaskan families that have done so to feed their families.

This bear was just killed for its claws. Nothing more.

What a waste.

I Was In Alaska Few Years ago!

The Guy/Friend We Were Fishing With would really Start Rantin & Ravin everytime We seen this other Local on the River!

Said The JOKER Uses Eggs Any Time He Pleases!

So the 2nd Day I Throwed My Bino's in!

He Had one of them Big Ole 128 oz Maverick Mugs!

He Even Pretended to Be Drinking out of it!

But With My Bino's I Noticed that's where He was Hiding the Eggs!

We Came around a Sharp Bend on the River on Day 3 & He Jerked His Pole 3 Times just as hard as He Could!

Jerk = No More Eggs!

He Wads a Sly SOB!

We Got a few around here as well!

If you are referring to myself? Why yes I am. Yesterday I was interested in purchasing Leupold. Today I kinda am leaning towards Nightforce.

Actually no I am not.

No elk not you. Heads up Darwin there are a handful of guys that will get under your skin. It's kinda funny when you see someone take it personal. Wait till you meet tristate or homer.

Oh what's seems to be anger from me is usually humor. I know where I stand in life so I can run with the best of them. Well that is unless my Savage 116 blows up . If that is what life deals me then I will limp with the best of them.

I own enough firearms to be considered a threat to many 3rd world countries. I can hunt and do but I am no expert when it comes to hunting. But I enjoy it so much.

I shoot competitively which I am pretty darn good at.

Firearms have been a major part of my life . I love and can argue or discuss them. Either way I will still love the smell of gun powder in the morning and curse the lead deposits late at night.

Right on, good answer. Hope you stick around. Ive only been on here 1 year but we see so many new guys post a question or two then never here from them again.
