Taxidermy Question

I've got a black bear hunt coming up in May with my dad and two brothers in Alberta. We all live in Utah and Nevada. Between the four of us, we're interested in everything from rugs to full body mounts (assuming we're successful).

After the hunt, we'll have a 10-hour return trip, between three separate flights. Does it make more sense to have the taxidermy done there in Alberta and have the finished rugs/mounts shipped to us? Or would it be better to bring the frozen hides back to Utah and have the taxidermy done here locally?

Curious what you guys think or if any of you have had any good or bad experiences with this. Thanks!

If you have a good taxidermist near home, I would go the freezing route and bring it home with you to take it to him.

Bring them back! I left mine with a guy on Prince of Wales years ago. He got cancer and died AND the place he sent it to get tanned went bankrupt. I had absolutely no power in this situation. Finally tracked down which tanning place it had been. Called the county sheriff in Idaho and he sent me to Marc Jozovich in Butte MT and after 18 months of searching he had it!! Finally got the rug done and back from Marc 3.5 years after I shot it.

If you don't bring them back and want a rug, I would also suggest that you just Fed Ex them directly to Marc. He did a great job. Rugs are his specialty. (406) 494-2285 try him at this number. Or google him.

My wife and I harvested two whitetail deer, in Kentucky last year. We put my hide and the backstraps in a Styrofoam lined box froze it for 2-3 days. By the time we lift for the airport, and we got home it was about 8 hours everything was still frozen.

For the love of the hunt.
