Hey folk's, I just received some orders to Minot AFB, ND and was wondering if anyone was willing to shoot some advice about big game hunting throughout ND and SD? I've lived in NM for the past 5 years so I know it will be a culture shock from western big game hunting. Any advice helps! Thanks.

In ND there is good archery deer hunting. Tags are OTC for residents. Rifle tags for mulies are a lot tougher to draw then a whitetail rifle tag. There are elk, moose, and sheep that are OIL tags.

SD you can archery hunt OTC as a non res for deer. Rifle Muley tags are hard to draw in some units but whitetail you can get a rifle tag every few years. Don't think you can apply for oil species as a non res in SD.

Regards, Branden

In addition to big game you have access to world class waterfowling, Turkey and upland bird hunting in both states. Dust off the shotgun, get a dog or make friends with a dog person and go hunt.

Get the PLOTS maps in North Dakota and make use of that program. Don't be afraid to knock on doors as well.

Lake Sakakawea and Devils Lake for fishing, the Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge, Des Lacs National Wildlife refuge are within fairly easy driving distances.

I've seen many nice Muleys from Bowman up north of Medora North Dakota over the years. Have hunted coyotes and done some prairie dog shooting near Bowman. As far as South Dakota lots of public land up in the northwest corner that hold some mule deer and antelope. You have a lot of options in those areas.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-25-17 AT 09:28AM (MST)[p]I remember seeing a map somewhere that showed all of the non paid fees across the western USA. The bundy's were responsible for like 95% of un paid fees. It was all about not having to pay a bill, that should have been paid. They should re posses everything they own and sell it off to get the money.

South Dakota is awesome IF you bow hunt. Deer and antelope tags are OTC and there's a decent amount of public land in the western half of the state. And the seasons sometimes overlap by a week so you can go for a double.
