So alot of talk about the problems with the shed closure. Alot of issues like poor ethics, trouble enforcing the rule. So what are the answers to the problems, Iv talked to a few folks about it and heard a few ideas, letting dedicated hunters gain hours patrolling winter range areas from the roads with spotters and phone scope. Penalties including lost points and hunting privileges. Temporary preserves including non game species. The last one was a houndsman who said an exception for lion Hunter of course lol. I would like to here from guys here like Bess, 2Lumpy, elkfromabove, Nebo and the rest if you have ideas.

It's kinda like this here Stone!

The South Slope has Been Ripped to Sshhiittt by Illegal Wheelers!

Nothing being done about it!

Worse by the Year!

The Shed Closure Won't & Can't be Enforced like it needs to be!

I Like Your Idea of Turning People Loose with Badges!:D

You Can Make alot of Laws in this World!

But The Law Officials Can't Enforce them & Hammer every TARD that needs Hammered!

Until TARDS start using that Round Thang atop their Shoulders & Obeying Rules & Laws the Only People Losing Once again are the Honest People!

I Don't Expect anything to Change!

Until TARDS Start Policing Theirselves You're Pissin in the Wind!

The End!

I think the only answer to solve a problem like this is to make punishment for the law breakers severe. Yeah guys get ticketed and get fined some nominal sum. When you get slapped on the wrist for a few hundred bucks, guys wont get "the point" and wont be afraid to try again.

I don't believe issuing a large fine is something that would realistically happen. Even then, there are some guys who will still risk it, and if caught, can still pay it.

I think a possible answer is: Loss of all bonus/preference points in the state which you broke the law. In addition to that, if a person is caught poaching sheds by another person who filmed the offender and turned them in, the guy successfully turning in the shed poacher would get ALL of the shed poachers points.

To deter the guys who have no points or could care less about points, if caught shed poaching, they would then lose their chance to put in for that falls hunts. If the draw deadline already passed, take away any tags they draw that year.

I don't think that issuing a huge fine will ever work, (for some reason big fines and wildlife violations are definitely NOT synonymous). But hitting guys with the penalty of taking away their time (years or decades of points) will be far more effective than fining them. A guy can always make more money, but you cant turn back the clock.

The biggest problem I see with it Half, is how do you not harass the wildlife the rule was passed to benefit, if your stomping around the winter range looking for antler poachers. I brought this up while talking with some folks the other night, that's when it was said spotters and phone scope, monitoring access points. Utilizing Dedicated hunters ect.. like Bess said we need to police ourselves, but we can't damage the resource to do it. And what would be a incentive to do it. I do like some of your ideas, and hope more folks post up some thanks

There is no problem. The level of harrassment by shed hunters is no more than other human activities.

With that said though, I hope they keep the shed law. I love seeing less people in March.

Catch shed poachers w drones, including infrared @ night. Like for other game violations, confiscate every truck, atv, optic, radio, trailer used in commission of the crime. Auction all that to fund enforcement. Sentences for game violations should include long stretches of community service working for wildlife agencies. Give cash and pref points to informants. A few headlines about that would alter some behavior.

NVBighorn is right. If there was no selling antlers I believe most all issues with shed hunting would be gone. Then those of us who love to do it for the fun would be left. I saw a guy this year driving cross country on a quad with an oxygen tank on the back of the quad running up his nose. It's pretty stupid what the $$$ brings.

South slope ripped to shreds by wheelers
That is a forest service problem right there
Support your local forest service LEO by getting pictures of offending jackwagons or even bring back the high county tune up!

Maybe DNR could work with FS leo"s

Poachers barely get their hand slapped for illegal kills! If a poacher gets caught once he's probably done it a hundred times. Don't expect antler poachers to get a more severe punishment. Anything that can be corrupted, will be corrupted!

It takes bodies to enforce. That takes money. Higher fines will mean more people delinquent on paying their fines. Put them in jail? We have the highest incarceration rate in the world. A lot of factors come in. Legislation seldom solves moral problems. Selfishness is a moral problem.

You have to hit them where it hurts. Policing ourselves I like that idea. But here's the issue when a guy like our wonderful second time offender that was mentioned in the wildlife board meeting gets mouthy then a fist fight happens which I don't care because some people need a good A55 whooping in the shed game. When someone gets his A55 handed to him in front of his buddies and his chicklets get knocked down his throat, he and his buddies run down to the local judge and cry for a lawsuit and a sum of cash and next thing you know the division is involved in a lawsuit because some A55whipe couldn't leave the deer and elk alone, lipped off to the guy they deputised to do the patrolling and got some sense beat into him and looked like a b!tch in front of his buddies and had his pride wounded cries for a huge paycheck. Seize there backpack, binos, truck, guns and the things they have in posession. Treat it as poaching no F##king plea deals. And take their hunting rights for 3 to 4 years minimum and make em pay 5K dollars. Second time double it. Wyoming has it's fair share of problems with horn poaching as well. The only way you fix it is hit and hit them hard with the penalty. A couple hundred dollar fine is nothing when you sneak off with a packfull of march elk sheds. I will say I did not even stomp foot on the winter range until the opener. I did not do good but oh well I kept in mind the overall health of what supplies the resource that hits the dirt. I would much rather kill deer and elk than have their sheds. Hopefully we as sportsman can find a way and come to an agreement on how we treat the winter range and protect and keep the animals health in mind. And if a closure is what needs to be done permanently that's fine but it needs to apply to hikers and other groups who have no skin in the game towards conservation.

Take the $$$ out of it and problem solved. When the hills are lit up with spotlights at midnight I have a hard time believing those guys are just enjoying being outside bonding with nature.

That's BS and you know it. What other human activities involve busting brush covering every square inch of ground, running game all over the place? All you have to do is drive anywhere during shed hunting season and at every turnout is some Tards monster F-350 or Silverado.
People like Subaru driving Lucy the lesbo tend to stay on established trails and at established trail heads. I have yet to see Subarus packed full of tards wearing camo parked at every F'N turn out ready to spend the day covering every square inch of earth.

Here is the deal: You will not be able to legislate your way out of this issue. Last I checked, making murder against the law and imposing some fairly stiff penalties has not stopped people from committing homicide.

I like the law. I think it should be enforced as much as we are reasonably able to do so. Of course there will be people that get away with it, but the intent of hoping to give animals a reprieve after hunting season and winter is noble.

It will take us as sportsmen doing our part, meaning following the rules and regulations, for it to have its biggest effect. But if we can't even get our own to quit poaching animals, how on earth can we get them to stop collecting their sheds before the rules allow?

I like the law. I hope it becomes permanent. I understand some will violate it, and many of those will get away with it. But it does not change the fact that it is good policy.
