LAST EDITED ON Jun-06-17 AT 08:00PM (MST)[p]The lethal removal of buffalo is a great concept. It's a good thing wolves aren't a good natural predator of bison or the Grand Canyon National Park would be soon over run, as Yellowstone has been.
I'm 110% in favor of using public hunters to cull the bison herd in GNP, and we should be doing the same with the elk and the bison in Yellowstone, when the habitat and other environment systems are out of balance there.
Using wolves or any natural predator, that can't be easily managed by humans is absurd and leads to the social and political conflicts we are dealing with in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. So unnecessary and so politically motivated.
Culling wildlife in the National Parks is total the responsibility of the public that own the Parks and the Parks administrators should be using public hunters to most efficiently take care of our responsibility.
Thanks for the recommendation, I support your proposal and encourage all others to do so as well.
The following was the recommendation I provided the Park's request for comments:
"Thank you for asking for input regarding the culling of bison in the Grand Canyon National Park. I would respectfully recommend the State of Arizona assist the Park Service in using public hunters to carefully, under close supervision, by either the Park Service Staff or the State of Arizona Fish and Game Department, cull the bison in the Park.
These bison and the GCNP are treasures for all Americans and it is the duty and the responsibility of the public to care for these animals and these lands in a efficient and carefully controlled manner.
I understand many in the Park Service and the general public wish there was some way that another animal (predators) could keep the bison in balance but that is simply not possible, therefore the most practical and reasonable solution would be to use the proven American hunter solution, where it can best be used, to assist in this management necessity.
Thank you kindly for your thoughtful consideration."
