Review: OnX Maps update

So disappointing...
Absolutely loved the old app! Spent WAY to much time on it. Was on phone with OnX today and have been trying to figure out the app all evening. Have been a member of multiple states for about 4 years.

I had thousands of markups extremely customized. (Different colors, shapes, etc. meant different things). Now all is just a red jumbled mess of lines that all look the same because of the update. All old waypoints (dots) are now big red bubbles that get in the way.

New update does not allow user to use any base maps other than; satellite, generic all white topo map (developed in house by OnX), and a combination of the two. Topo lines overlaying satellite view.

Spoke on phone with OnX today and they say this is the way it's going to be. (I understand business and I'm sure the in house top map is saving them a ton of money)

Please understand, no usgs topo maps on the new update. One of the biggest things that bothers me.

Old markups are there but practically worthless as they all look identical.

Current app is extremely glitchy and also IMO very boxy(very bad transitions within the app)

Also IMO poor timing to do this right at the beginning of hunting season.

Bottom line, I strongly recommend users not updating the app if possible.

I am fix'in to head back up to Wyoming for my 3rd scouting trip this year and went on my OnXmap (i6 & iPad) and was I ever surprised!!

Not a happy camper at all........

For what I use it for I like the update. I really like the fact that you can switch which 5 states you are using. I had all of my waypoints the same anyways, which isn't super efficient. But it did make it so the update didn't seem to hurt. I am curious about how the offline works with the update though.

i assume your talking phone/tablet updates correct? im asking because im using onx in my GPS and im wondering if the same thing will happen??

I also have the old Plat4GE product that has all the pvt/LO names/BLM/FS/etc on GE Pro. TopRut also provides GE overlays, per hunt unit, that shows State/BLM/FS/etc but no LO names.
If I could pull my points/tracks off OnX as a GPX so I had it in my possession I would try their product.

Your GPS uses an sd card. Totally different than the phone app.

I just paid my $29.99 renewal for the Utah maps on June 28th for my I-Phone app and apparently for no reason. When I log in, and after prompts to try a "Free trial membership", it says I am a basic member. I have to pay the $29.99 AGAIN to upgrade from a basic membership to get the map layers. I've called them twice to be told each time it was reset and fixed, but it is still not working.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-02-17 AT 06:07PM (MST)[p]Sd cards use vector based maps, I believe the phone app uses raster maps. You should see no difference other than standard feature updates. The sd map is a single layer map although you the user can add other maps, setting draw order and such.

Your dealings with them would be extremely annoying.

I noticed that even though I have receipts for the Elite, they only have me as Premium and want me to pay for all my layers again.

If I cannot get the layers without ponying up more dollars, I will stop using their stuff.

I have a help ticket in with them. I hope yours ends well.
