"Remington Ultimate Bomb"

Does anybody know the guy who exploded his Remington Ultimate Muzzleloader? From the pictures and video on Facebook it looks like he might need a couple bandaids for his fingers. It would sure be interesting to hear what caused it.

just search remington muzzleloader on Facebook. I was asking if it was that guy tumbling bullets with his 200 grain charge. Maybe he used 200 grains of Blackhorn.

A good rule to live by: "IF IT COMES IN A GREEN BOX AND SAYS REMINGTON, RUN AWAY OR AT LEAST STAND WAY BACK".

Corporate bean counters should not be making decisions when it comes to designing and building firearms.

Well now that TARDS can use scopes, you gotta load'em hot so you don't have to aim so high on those 400 yard shots.

I was chronographing my muzzy today. 310 grain .452 bullet in a harvester sabot. 100 grains was averaging 1,742fps, 110 grains was 1,899fps and 2,010fps with 120 grains of blackhorn 209.

I don't need to aim high. I just need to range it and dial the turret

CVA KODIAK PRO with a 28" barrel. I have 2 others but they only have a 26" barrel. They have consistently been the most accurate muzzys I've owned. The trigger sucks from the factory, but you either learn to live with it or work it over some.

The wind was blowing pretty hard from the Southwest while I was shooting so I didn't hear it. He might of heard me with the wind blowing his direction though.

We've had wind gusts all day up to 37mph so I wasn't shooting for distance today. I was verifying loads with my chrono and checking impact in the wind. At 100 yards I was still getting consistency. My last 3 shots were just under an inch, center to center, but the point of impact was almost 10 inches to the left of my point of aim.

I'm not Testing Mine with a Load like that!

Maybe they can ReCall all Ultimate's because of Barrel Failure!

Well maybe I am old school? But before I load any of my muzzleloaders. I pop a cap or two to dry out the barrel. Just in case oil has built up in the ignition area from being stored upright. Maybe someone could pass on this little word of wisdom to this fellow.

My ramrod is maked at the height of a full load. If that mark is above or below the end of the barrel more than a quarter inch, something's not right.

always check that gun first. A tamping mark on your ramrod is a good thing to have. I always drop my ramrod down the barrel first to make sure it's empty. I don't trust my memory as much any more.

Watching that video and seeing those hands is a good way to develop a flinch. I think I just went back to wearing shooting gloves

I just read the fox 13 article. It seems odd to think a gunsmith would clean a barrel and then load the gun and leave it. There's quite a few ways to get a kaboom like that. Something as simple as not seating the bullet can do it if there's enough space between the powder and bullet. I hope he has someone to help load his gun if he's hunting next week. It might be hard with only one good hand.

I'm betting this was caused by either lack of experience or common sense or possibly both. I don't think it has anything to do with it being a Remington. If you do something stupid with any firearm you have the potential of creating a bomb.

You are more than likely right. I just like to bash big green whenever I get a chance

I looked at the Remington Ultimate closely. It looks well made, but for me it is too heavy and I would have to reshape the forearm to be slimmer. I do like the idea of using primed brass. It would be very convenient to just prime a 100 cases and not fumble around with little 209 primers. I would prefer a 28" barrel and a little faster twist than 1:28 to stabilize longer, heavier bullets.

Lack of experience, common sense or plain stupidity, pretty much the cause of every accident in the history of man.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-20-17 AT 07:11 PM (MST)

Drew a couple muzzleloader tags this year. First thing I did was break my gun down and give it a good clean. Back of my mind I thought I'd left it loaded, I hadn't, but the cleaning was warranted. Got a mark on my ramrod, would have been simple to check but there's really only one way to make sure the barrel is clear. Suspect this gun had a couple rounds in it.

If Remington made Kevlar shooting gloves, they sure as hell wouldn't work now would they?

I have a friend who makes Protex Kevlar archery gloves that prevent a broken arrow from shooting through your hand. Marvin Carlston, the guy who started GoldTip archery. I talked to him yesterday and said he needs to design a shooting glove that will protect fingers and palms.

Google firearm kabooms and injured hands. There are a lot of sausage stumps walking around out there. And yes, I was wearing my leather shooting gloves at the range today
