Guided Hunting Trip

I am planning my first guided hunting trip next year. I am really having trouble deciding where and what to do. I am a Mule Deer fanatic but really want to shoot a moose. I have a $9000 budget. I was thinking about British Columbia because I can drive there and hunt multiple species. I have 3 points for elk and deer in WY and I live in Colorado.

Any suggestions would be great.

I did my first dedicated bear hunt this year in CO, and it is a blast, especially by yourself deep in the wilderness. Lots of adrenaline going into the thick Aspen to find a bear you shot. In BC the tags aren't expensive so you get them all, Moose, mule deer, bear, wolf, whitetail for $800-$1000. I have heard the south eastern BC has been hit hard by Wolves and Grizzly's, which is my only concern.

Give the guys at Rolling Bones Outfitters a call. They have access to any kind of hunt you might want. They will walk you through a hunt plan and get you on the hunt you want to go on.

My son and I just returned from a BC stone sheep and goat hunt. It was an awesome horseback hunt in the wilderness. Sheep are way out of your budget, but if you are at all interested in goats, your 9 grand will get you a great billy. My son killed a 10 5/8" book goat and we left bigger ones on the mountain. Moose might be a grand or two more, depending on who you go with but I loved BC.

If you go really far to the north, your costs for moose will go up but you can do moose for a little less than your budget in the middle part of BC. I can suggest an outfitter that I went with a couple years back. I shot a 50" moose on a fly in hunt. It was a blast. I drove up from Utah to save on airfare as getting there was not cheap from Salt Lake. I know he does moose and goat hunts for a decent price as I was going to go back but I went to Africa instead. My write up is on the forum if you do a search.

In all my research I did, everything I saw said stay away from the southern end of BC as the quality and quantity of moose goes down. Maybe that's changed some since I did my research?

Dack, What outfitter did you use in BC? I do have some room in my budget if I need to fly or...

John, I will check into Red Willow.

Dirty grass let me know if you use Red Willow their prices seem affordable

LAST EDITED ON Nov-03-17 AT 08:18AM (MST)[p]I used Nanika Lake Outfitters. We chose to do the fly in hunt to Atna Lake. It was a two day drive up from Salt Lake but it was worth it. The scenery was amazing especially for me since it was my first time ever going through there. Saw lots of big horn sheep and ironically only one moose on the drive home. Driving also allowed me to bring back all of the meat, cape, and antlers so that was a huge plus. I know at the time we were charged approximately $6300 for our 1x1 fly in hunt. I'm sure that's changed now, but that should give you an idea of what to look at. The drive hunts were less but still looked like a lot of fun.

I actually had reached out to red willow outfitters during my research. I never got an email response to any of my inquiries and I ended up having to call directly. After the call which didn't go well, I decided to go a different direction. The whole thing was weird because a lot of people recommend them.

I'm a few years out on bulls, but I do a wild free-range bison and colored phase bear combo or bison and antelope combo.

Ive been looking at Sawtooth Outfitters in BC, 17 hour drive. I have heard Southern BC is pretty slim on animals but Sawtooth seems to do pretty good on Elk, Moose and especially bears. Does anyone know anything about Sawtooth?
