Finally decided to expand my seasons.

Past all the measurements, we are hitting bowshop for that.

I am looking for suggestions on good value bows. The ruger and savages of the archery world. Don't care about latest and greatest, and don't want to drop a grand.

So, models and brands?

Hoyt carbon bows are awesome but you spend a little more. Primes are super forgiving and a little better on the wallet. One advantage of carbon bows over aluminum and I love it, your hand will never get cold on later hunts where aluminum risers will leave your hand freezing. I shot a ross years ago and it was super forgiving and quiet I'm not sure if they make them anymore and they were priced good. PSE's I shot for a while and they are fast. But I had a shoulder injury and I won't shoot them anymore because the cams are too agressive. Mathews has always made smooth bows as well. Mission is a sister company of mathews so you could save that way. I've heard good things about Elites they are similar to primes. I don't know much about bowtechs anymore. Diamond is a sister company of bowtech possibly a little cheaper. I've seen a brand called Expedition that is starting to gain some popularity but have no knowledge of those. Pretty much in todays world of bows they are all good anymore. Go shoot a ton of them because what works for me might not work for you. Right now you could snag some of last years models on clearance that never got sold at bowshops. So you could potentially get more bow for your money.

UN like a gun the most important thing for a bow is the fit and comfort. Go shoot a dozen plus bows of all types and then settle on the one that fits you best. Even at the same weight and size the bows will feel different.

Also the better quality bow you buy now means a longer time before you buy a new one. Also a grand with everything is not bad. By the time you add sights, release, arrows, quiver, etc. Almost any decent bow will be pushing that price if new.

Used bows do not sell well. Never have and as such you can hold out and likely get a used set up at a good deal. But then again it is all about fit and the used bow may not fit you very well.

If you're looking at something used, I have a Bowtech Admiral for sale.....was always a back-up bow for me and in excellent condition. Set at 61# and 29" draw......adjustable. Smooth drawing bow, quiet and zero hand shock. Shoot one and see if you like them.......PM me if interested.

If your looking for decent bow & don't want to spend 1k or more
look at Diamond by Bowtech or PSE. You can pick up a ready to hunt package from Cabelas or Bass Pro.

You can usually find good used bows for pretty cheap and they are often already set up. Or another way is to wait until the new models come out and buy last years model. They get well discounted for a great new bow. Another route would be to go with something like Diamond, which is really part of Bowtech but much cheaper. But one of the biggest things about bows is that it has to fit you...go to a shop and shoot a bunch of bows without looking at what the brand is...once you find one that you think feels really comfortable, then find out what it is and start looking for that.

HOYT!! No questions asked.. although the higher end of the hoyt line is well over a thousand dollars the 2017 POWERMAX is on sale , I found a shop selling them on eBay that would take $550 !!!!! It's a $759 set up . They're fully set up all you need is arrows !! Looking for my son. I have shot the turbo line since they came out and love them but they are pricey..
