Hey guys, I am thinking of booking a hunt with Heavens Gate Outfitters in the Riggins area of Idaho. Has anyone been deer or elk hunting with them before?

The country looks rugged but I am more interested in elk....are there good numbers of elk?

I work with a guy who hunts that area DIY and has met the outfitter you mentioned on the mountain. From what he has told me ,there's elk to be had but the outfitters clients are to lazy to really hunt them . According to my coworker, the work required to be successful is a tall task but not impossible, I've seen his trail cam and success pictures. I would think going with an outfitter and not being a lazy bum would be a great way to experience that area . Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

I would be in Unit 18. I have 22 points for Elk in Utah and I am TIRED of waiting. I hunted a general unit in Utah last year but it was really tough hunting and I never got my sights on a bull. I will hike 10 miles per day in steep country. I hunted 4 areas in 3 states last year for deer and I am just getting too picky. My business is growing and I just cant take 4 weeks to hunt this year. I hope an outfitter can put me on a good bull quick. I wonder what the success rate of the outfitter is. From what I read online it is ok to not so good. But, the area has some amazing beauty, and it looks like some decent mule deer and they do pull some bulls.

Anyone know much about his success rate? I will ask him but what do you guys know?

If that's Darwin I've had some dealings with him. Luckily I didn't have to testify. Just took my statement. I haven't dealt with him since. On purpose.
