A Spanish Fork man was arrested Thursday on reports of killing an elk without proper permits.
Gunnar Beus, 23, was arrested on suspicion of two third-degree felonies of wanton destruction of protected wildlife, according to the report.
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources received a tip in mid-November about photographs that showed Beus and another individual with a dead six-point bull elk. The caller suspected it was killed illegally, according to the report.
The Facebook photos, which were available for the public to see, showed Beus standing over the elk with a gun and then Beus carrying the head and antlers, which had been removed, according to the report. They also found another set of photographs from 2016 showing a dead bull elk.
The officers were able to pinpoint where they suspected the incident had occurred, went to it and found the remains of an elk carcass with its head missing, according to the report. The carcass was in an area that required a ?Limited Entry Permit.?
They were also able to determine that Beus had brought elk meat and an elk head into a local business for processing, according to the report.
After obtaining a search warrant, officers found the antlers and elk meat inside Beus? home.
