draw question

im pretty familiar with how the utah draw system works when it comes to group applications where you will be in the max point pool or the preference point drawing, but im still a little confused on how it works on a group app when it comes to the random drawing. im hoping some of you can explain it for me. heres an example. lets say i have 1 bonus point for LE elk. i have a family member with 6. giving us a total of 7, but averaged out, 3 a piece going into the drawing with a group app. we apply for an easier to draw unit for an archery hunt, but your max point guys will take 7 points to draw a bonus tag. lets say they give out 15 permits and only draw down to the 6 point pool, for 7 permits. leaving 8 for the random draw. my question is this, am i better off applying by myself with 1 point? or are my odds better in a group app with 3 points? if one of us were to draw a lower number and the other to draw a high number, do we both get kicked out of the draw? or do we both get a tag? im just curious how this whole thing works, since i dont have much experience with it.

thanks for your input and advice!

I'm a resident of Utah.... wouldn't that mean I pull from the resident tags?

If you put in as a group, you only get "random numbers" as a group. You don't get your random numbers as well as your group partners...

In your scenario, your group would get 3 random numbers for your Bonus Points and 1 random number for the year you are putting in, totaling 4 random numbers in the draw.

Putting in by yourself would give you 2 total random numbers in the draw. But, your buddy would have a total of 7, giving him a 75% better chance to draw, and you a 50% worse one.

The random tags are a total crap shoot anyway though, so, I'd say, give your buddy the chance at actually getting the tag with 6 BPs, you go along with him and see if it's something you even want to do once your BP number is higher.
