Ok trying not to start another piss storm here. Who is going to be at the Expo next weekend the 10th ? I Generally have to go on Saturday to allow my kids to come with me. I usually see Bess every year and he tells me of all of the others around walking the halls. Even about the Monster Muleys members wife kissing ? on him. Do we want to meet or get a table at the sheep raffle that afternoon. We all know Zeke will be there ! Who wants to bring the pink balloons to mark the table. ?

I'll be there with another member, but probably on a week day to avoid some of the crowds! Maybe if a bunch of you get a table at the sheep raffle, you can all pitch in and buy a tag, then wrestle for it lol

You can't miss Bobcat Bessy running around with that funny hat. ????? Oh and for the record. He doesn't wear it to hunting camp. Must be for formal occasion.

I'll be there Saturday at Full Curl but I have to sit up front for a presentation. Come introduce yourselves if you hanker to do so. Love to put a face to some familiar names.

I'll probably head down there I haven't been in a couple years. Super excited to see the epic outdoors booth and the shed tours supposedly you'll never see a shed collection like it. I'm sure I'll check out mossbacks booth and Tines up. It's always cool to see the taxidermy work on those giant bucks and bulls.

Anybody got some discount tickets for Beer LOL.

Sportsman Warehouse has discount coupons. Usually there are a lot out in the hall at the Expo.

RE: Hunt Expso in Salt lake

So I'm planning on stopping by Friday evening and Saturday. I'm from az and have never been I was curious how it works to get into the place? Tickets at the door? I see online where you can register for the banquets and other certain auctions in advance but don't see anything about how to pay to get into the place to visit all the booths? Do they sell those in advance? Are they sold out already? Thanks for any help.

RE: Hunt Expso in Salt lake

Out in the hall before entering the Expo. You can register for all of the hunts. They have a area to by tickets and there are displays in the hall. Then after buying you ticket you go into the expo. During the day there are different seminars on Saturday is the Wild Sheep luncheon. They have ten dollar of coupons at Sportsman warehouse and other sponsors. Usually there are tons of them around the ticket buying area.

Planning on keeping the streak alive.

"If the DWR was just doing its job, and
wildlife and hunting were the actual focus,
none of this process would even matter.
But that is not the focus or the goal in any
of this. The current DWR regime, and
SFW were born out of wildlife declines,
and are currently operated and funded
under that paradigm. Those 200 Expo
tags would not even be worth anything if
the focus was where it was supposed to
be, and wildlife and tags were plentiful.
But under the current business model,
that is how the money and power is
generated. It is generated through the
rising "value"(monitization) of a declining
resource. A resource that is supposed to
be being beneficially managed for the
masses that own that resource, ie. US.
The problem is obvious, hedging is not a
long term sustainable strategy, and
others have to lose, for some to win. In
this case it is us, the many, and our
resources, that are being forced to lose,
because there is a minority who's power
and money is derived from our loses."

Amen, Gordy! I've got other things that NEED my attention!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-18 AT 06:06PM (MST)[p]>Like scouting a local alfalfa field???

Not quite! More like giving my wife her daily insulin shot! Like helping my legally blind son with his massage school homework. Like tending our premie 3 year old granddaughter while her parents who are living with us make the necessary visits to the doctors and labs to find out why my son-in-law's legs keep collapsing. Like attending to my church duties. Like helping my daughter with the cooking and housework around here while my wife continues to recover from her chemo and radiation treatments for breast cancer. Like doing our taxes and my divorced daughter's taxes 'cause her EX keeps claiming one of the kids illegally. Like doing most of the family shopping and errands. Like keeping the vehicles running. Like meeting with our financial advisor. Like attending church, birthday parties, weddings, blessings baptisms, ordinations, graduations, hospitals, wakes and funerals (a sister, a brother-in-law, a preemie grandson who only lived 5 days), and, of course, an occasional RAC or Wildlife Board meeting among other things.

And, when I'm not doing things that NEED to be done, I enjoy doing the piles of wildlife research some of you guys keep asking for, but completely ignore or rag on me about when I post it. And, yes, that includes keeping my eye on some specific alfalfa fields that have 200 to 300 deer in them every night all year long, along with 40 of the 100 to 200 deer that live in Parowan which the DWR is supposed to be removing (They had only killed 20 of them as of Sep 6, 2017 which pissed off the Mayor who went to the local newspaper who printed an article titled "Deer causing problems, damage to some Parowan properties". If they've killed 40 of them, I've never noticed. There's as many as there always have been.)

In any case, even watching Blue Bloods, Star Trek, NCIS, and Bull are more important to me than staring at some dead freak animal that probably reduced my opportunity to occasionally get away from the emotional pressures the NEED's require. All in all, I think I'll pass!

Hey bonecollector!

Check your PM!

I will not be going. The odds are not the most favorable plus you have to go downtown and deal with parking etc.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-18 AT 06:09PM (MST)[p]I'll stop by tomorrow. Never pass up a chance to throw away $500 and see more boot cut true religion jeans, sparkly affliction shirts, white Oakleys, and flat brim hats than you can see assembled at any one time in any one place.

There is a large parking lot across the street from the Expo. Trucks with trailer motor homes. I wouldn't pull my truck and toy hauler in there. But anything you would drive threw those city streets. Sometimes it fills up in the late afternoon. My truck is to tall for the parking garages. So that where I park ever year.

Yes, right across from the Radison Hotel. There's an entrance to the Salt Palace right across the street.

Nice to visit with friends and stop by the BHA booth. Got some good deals on stuff too.

It's always a good show and it just goes to prove that attendance at the Expo is in no way indicative of support of SFW. It just means we are all passionate about hunting and want to draw a good tag ;-)

EDIT: I'm sure it was nice talking to you too, but I have no idea who you are since you've disabled your identity on MM. Feel free to PM me if you'd like.

Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is having an Expo After-Party/Pint Night on Friday from 6:30-9pm at Twist in SLC if anybody is looking to grab a bite and talk hunting.

Figured I'd better post on the positives of my visit to the show, instead of just my other post about my bad luck.

The show was good as always, many great animals on display and the taxidermy was amazing. I got in on a couple draws as a non-resident, and looked for mounted trophies from those units. People in the booths were really friendly and some were still setting up, even as people were stopping by. No pressure at all to hawk you in for a "special" deal. Saw a few African vendor friends, couple people from Utah that I know only from this show, and even a couple Idaho Falls friends. Some listened to my tale of woe, having 22 deer points and 18 moose points, and said "This is the year". Hope they are right!!!!

Hope everyone has a great time there, and you all see the animals of your/their dreams.

I read in the Desetet News this morning that Secretary Zinke will be at the Expo today with a major announcement. I dont know if anoyone cares but interesting to me.

Some rumors are he is planning on moving either The BLM, National Park Service or Bureau of Reclamation head quarters to Salt Lake

I just got done at expo with family it was a great time. I also go to meet bobcat he is a stand up guy.

Like ain't about waiting for the Strom to pass. Its about learning to hunt in the rain!

I saw Bessy. Talked to Zeke at the Full curl society social. But by phone. There where so many people there. I couldn't find anyone. Super crowded today but still a good show. John Bair was streaming the auction. So the the Antelope island tag went for 290,000 dollars. To another Canadian guide. Saw the new Skre camo color. The new Canvas cutter with the air mattress. Sneeke had some new camo out.

Thanks Robb, and BIGJOHN
I was sorry I did not meet any new MMers in person today, and I sat next to Zeke. We still had a fine time talking to familiar friends and catching up. The show was great as always and I can't believe how many awesome animals I saw in taxidermy exhibits, etc. that were taken this year. That always gives me motivation to keep on hunting.
Some day I want to put a face to some of your handles. In the mean time, keep on keepin' on.

Lbh I was making it over towards your table. But couldn't find you guys. Zeke said you were over by the cameras. But just to many people everywhere. I forgot I did meet 2lumpys boy Scott at his booth. I'll need to get a few pictures like Scott has of his Drahthaar. When i get mine home. Maybe next time or we will have to see you guys on the mountain. A far as Zim goes politics can be a nasty game. Ya good we have a few good guys in our corner to fight for us.

I'm curious to how much money you all are throwing at the 200 expo tags? On average.

For the few years that I have attended and put my name in the hat, on average, I spend about 50$ (about 10 hunts)give or take.

What about the rest of you?

we must and we will."

The more you put in for the more of a chance you have to draw. I don't put in for the Turkey tags. Just the ones I want to draw. My youngest daughter has school so she put in for the area closest to home. Some of the tags draw four or five out of the hat with one five dollar donation. A better chance to draw. Now you ask. Have I ever drawn a tag, no. But my son drew a elk tag and a daughter drew a antelope tag. So if they draw I get to hunt. I spend in the 200 dollar area.

I decided to go big or go home....I dropped $230 on tags this year!
I'm sure I'll go home....

It was good to see you Bess!!
