Now Walmart is requiring you must be 21 to purchase guns and ammo. If citizens don't realize this is a turning point in US history and we have lost the structure of are country.
My boy will be going to National Guard basic training this summer as a 17 year old and when he returns he will be 18 and able to protect are rights established by the Constitution and Bill of Rights but he won't be able to purchase shot gun shells to hunt Doves. WHAT A COUNTRY

Part of the societal consequence of replacing local owned with big box cookie cutter chains. But hey if Wally Mart saved a buck it was worth it.

I don't think this is a bad thing. All it's going to do is shift the sales away from the box stores and into the hands of the little man or regional sporting goods stores. Dik's and Walmart suck anyways!

I wouldn't set foot in a Walmart. I could care less what they do. I go to the local small gun store.

Totally agree with this.

Sounds like a class action lawsuit to me.
Age Discrimination applying to a secured Liberty.

I've witnessed wallyworld kill locally owned stores/shops in rural communities and for years have avoided giving them business. The wife and I will no longer give them any business. Also dicks and their associates will no longer get any business from us.

living in a rural town, Walmart is really the only place locally, to conveniently shop for a wide range of products.
However that convenience does not outweigh my moral fortitude! Walmart will not be seeing me in their stores again!
Great post notdonehunting, and thank your son for his service.

I am just affraid they will set a precedent and more will follow. I dont purchase from walley either but the country is changing and not for the better.

I kind of agree. Especially on the bad changing.

BUT, unless its outlawed, ammo sales could be a huge business opportunity.

Wal-Mart sales a ton of steel shot around here.

Is be curious about age discrimination lawsuit as well

Not sure if this is still the case but wally world used to be the nation's largest firearms dealer. Hope that changes with their new pc views. Pizz on wallyworld!

I agree with Hoss, walmart sells a lot of ammo to bird and deer hunters here. I looked up the statistics, and if correct, outdoor sporting and recreation accounts for %2.5 of walmarts overall sales. Wonder if they are taking a page out of Dicks playbook and accepting that loss of revenue. They quit selling guns in California several years ago, and that hasn't slowed them down.

I remember back in the 80's when they raised the drinking age to 21 from 19 in these parts. Some were making the same arguments above serving in the military at 18 and 19 and not being able to drink until 21. Things changed, life went on and people lost interest in the argument. Imagine for most it won't be any different with Walmart and Dik's...

Who knows there may be a lawsuit here. In my town a bakery lost a law suit for not making a wedding cake to a same sex couple due to their religious beliefs. If they can get sued successfully for that why should this be any different for refusing to sell ammo to someone who is of legal age to buy it?? Are there any lawyers in the room???????????????????????

heywouldyou, They quit selling guns in CA. years ago because they got caught violating gun laws by the CA. dept. of Justice.
Walmart failed to train their employees working the firearm section, or filling in for employees that normally work the firearm sales, and as a result they were selling guns without completing the federal 4473 forms.

D.O.J. did a inspection on several stores, including our local one and Walmart could not find numerous firearms that should have still been in their inventory. Further investigation showed some employees that allowed customers to walk out the door with a purchased gun and did not know they were supposed to fill out the forms.

CA. gave them a deal, criminal action and heavy fines or quit selling in CA., which was what CA. wanted in the first place. They took the deal and no more firearm sales in this state.

RELH,
I wasn't really implying that they chose to sell guns in California (even though I wouldn't blame them for it), the point I was trying to make is I don't think it effected their overall store sales and profits.
With 2.5% of their overall sales generated from the outdoor and recreation department, maybe they are hedging that overall store sales won't be negatively affected by making this somewhat political position.

I really wasn't aware of the "wide spread" violations that Walmart committed with regards to firearm registration. That's interesting. Thanks.

If you have a Wal-Mart, you're not rural, quit kidding yourself.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-18 AT 07:04PM (MST)[p]D6native,
I have to drive an hour to get to said walmart. our town is less than 1000 people, county less than 15,000. This may not be like Denio NV, but it's rural. There are no grocery stores, bars, or restaurants in our town, so I'm not sure what rural means to you.
Anyway, thank you for the thoughtful reply on my input.

so.... why not 25? We send our kids away to go to college, work or college.
might as well change the hunting, driving, and consent for an abortion to age 25! When do children actually become adults? Many of my family members were either drafted or enlisted in the military at the age of 18 and served our country well.
I managed construction crews of people much older that myself at 19 years old. I'm not saying I'm special, and I did stupid stuff in college, but I lived on my own, like many of you did. Sometimes, life lessons are how you become mature.

Not selling a legal product to a legal customer is discrimination. Choosing not to sell a legal product at all is a business decision. It can be determined based on political, religious, or other reasons.

When are kids adults? Age 12 according to movie theaters and other places that charge admission!

It doesn't make sense that an 18 year old can join the military and be deployed, but can't buy a beer. "Adult" should be the same for a movie ticket, a beer, or a gun!

If an 18 year old kid is messed up enough to do something bad with ammo, what are the odds that he/she will be stable and good to go with ammo in theee more years?

Good question

Just announced on the morning news a 20 year old man from Roseburg Oregon is Suing Dicks Sporting goods on the ground for age discrimination for not selling him a gun. It was only a matter of time I guess now we'll see how this pans out in court!
