Fellow Sportsmen,

I am spear heading an effort to maintain public access to over 10,000 acres of prime deer and elk hunting in NW Colorado near Rifle. This property has long been open to public access as the prior land owner, EnCana Oil and Gas would lease the hunting rights to the CPW. A couple years ago in this same area we lost access to the 20,000 acres Shell Lease. Sadly at that time I wished I had done more. Well this time I am trying to do more.

I am only 3 days into this process, but feel I have a solid plan moving forward.

The ROAN AREA ACCESS PROJECT is designed to provide a voice to the hunters (both residents and nonresident), the families and communities. We are hoping that through our efforts we can demonstrate the significance of this land and of hunting. I honestly do not know where this will head or if we will save anything, but I need to try for the sake of our hunting future.

Please contact me with any questions. Also please take the time to fill out the brief survey. Data and comments from this survey will be presented Caerus Oil and Gas in an attempt to save our access.

Also if you can make it...

A public meeting will be held at the Rifle High School Auditorium from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on March 29th...

1350 Prefontaine Avenue
Rifle, CO 81650

For more information you can email me at: [email protected] or by PM

Please share this far and wide.

The survey/form can be found here...

What or who is CPW?

Edit:Colorado Parks and Wildlife.....got it! I read the survey.

I'm just trying to understand. Thanks.

Done. Good job! Hopefully we all start to help each other out. If we could be a public access/land "gang", it benefits us all.

Good job

Al,

Thanks for the support. I am working on getting the word out about the issue. Most people have no idea the situation.

Also I have created a Facebook group called the Roan Area Access Project. If you use facebook or have someone who does, please invite them to join. I need numbers of people and samples of stories, trying to make a personal plea to Caerus.

Also I have some big plans for the group, but square one is preserving access to the Divide Road area.

Update.... Over the weekend we now have 100 people who have taken the survey, with 30% of the respondents having hunted this area for at least 16 years with family and friends.

Please keep sharing. Currently over 60 members on our Facebook group.

Please share the hell out of our effort...

Thanks for everyone who already helped...

Done,

PS.
And the main reason I did it is the help you so freely give.

PSS. Okay not completely true, we have to all do ALL we can to fight for access to lands.

I also completed the survey as a NR.

I hope you get lots more to respond.

You would certainly think that hunters would try to help each other out by taking 5 minutes( probably less) to do this. We certainly take the time to state our opinions and bicker at each other, lol. This is so much more important.

Weird how hunters never band together, isn't it?

I spent the same amount of time writing this post...

Done,

I also a Non-Res and have many others filling out this as well.

Thanks for making this public and please share.

So here is the updates...

We have collected over 90 signatures locally to keep this property open, including over 20 possibly 30 local business owners. The online survey has yielded over 160 participant and over 70 thoughtful comments.

Locally my daughter and I have passed out/hung over 100 flyers. Response has been overwhelmingly positive.

We have contacted the County Commissioners in both Meeker and Garfield County. Sadly only one responded with "I will pass this along".

Please share the survey, please share the date... Power is in numbers...

Good work!! I am a non-resident but love hunting in Colorado. I will take the survey & help in other ways if I can.
