I am currently looking into getting a new long range gun set up. I have heard one positive opinion on Thompson Long Range guns, but am looking for more opinions. Has anyone heard anything or gone through these guys before?
Anything will help. Thank you

great set up. awesome guys. mark will spend a ton of one on one time with you setting up your rifle. he will help you develop a load for it and take you to his personal range to sight it in. it is a hold over reticle with dots out to a thousand. thats where you need to decide if you want to dial or hold. (personal choice). ive personally shot these set ups and can attest to their accuracy. listen to the epic outdoors podcast with jason carter, he does one with mark and scott (different podcasts), this might give you a little insight to how they are. good luck!

Agreed. Isn't it just a Weatherby with a Leupold on it?

Last time I watched one of their videos I lost interest when they talk about their system for wind hold.

I think moat guys are better off buying a nice factory rifle, putting a nightforce or comparable scope on it, and take it a shooting school if they feel like they need more instruction.

yes its a factory weatherby rifle with a leupold on it. the scope has marks custom reticle in it that you cant buy otherwise. then with the course its a lot of one on one time with him and your rifle. im not trying to sell the course and rifle just saying thats what it is. ive used the rifle, although great, I decided its not for me and went a different route. still a great set up though.

Thanks for the input. When you buy the gun, can you take the course for no extra charge? Or are you still paying the entry fee to the course?

I know the Thompson family very well. Great Guns and they know what they are talking about with shooting long range. And yes if you buy a guy you get to take the course on how to PROPERLY shoot your gun out to 1000+ yards effectively. But the best person to get that information from is Mark himself.

I don't know how they make the fixed reticle work in all of the different hunting conditions.
Other systems like using a G7 range find figures your equation and you dial your turret.

Be like hiking with a ten foot section of conduit if it is one of those long winded barrels.

my buddy requested the ballistics from them 3 times for a brand new rifle so he could build a chart to tape to his stock. They never gave him one.

Thompson long range was around before all the rest, several of my friends own these rifles and there very accurate. There are several different systems out there whether your dialing turrets or using hash marks. All these rifles take a lot of practice if you really want to be good at long range. My set up now, custom 7mm, night force scope, G7 range finder and all the reloading equipment costs a lot more than a thompson long range set up to shoot factory ammo. Are you a sniper or a hunter, what I'm getting at is you can dump a lot of money in the long range hole. Mark has been around along time he's well worth talking to about what you are expecting out of a long range rifle

If he's using their scope a drop chart taped to the side would do you no good.

It's still just a Weatherby with a Leupold on it. I don't see the value. I can get into an APS rifle for around that cost. mtmuley
