My daughter's first! EPIC Dad Moment

My 12 year old daughter had had a tough 1st turkey season with all the snow in our area. The birds weren't making it out to the fields because they couldn't get through the crust. Finally, yesterday we went walking some ridges calling down into the valleys after the birds. We got some to fire up. We were able to close the distance to 20 yards at one point but had to let them work off because it was just too thick with brush. We climbed back up the ridge and called them up the ridge and right down the logging road into our lap. She shot her first bird with a Mossberg youth model 20 gauge at 18 yards. Proud moment! I'll try to embed the video as well.

So cool! Judging by the video I would say if she was half as excited as you I'd call it a total success. Congrats on the great bird!

She was definitely shedding some teara of joy, she was pretty nervous to miss, said she couldn't keep the gun still. Very special hunt!

Nothing better ! Brings back wonderful memories. Congratulations to you and your daughter.

Conglads to the young lady. Nice bird. My heart was racing just looking at the video! that's the real deal right there. Bob

Thanks for the love and support guys. She's still on top of the world at home and school which I really like to see hunting build her confidence in other areas of her life....middle school can be tough for a girl I guess ? makes me very excited for my own season to start tomorrow

Bob nailed it! I think I said SHOOT 5 times even though I knew she got it done before watchin! Nice work Dad and young lady!

Cool Pics and Video. Keep that video. 10-15 years from now it will be even more priceless as they grow up dang quick.
Thanks for sharing.

That is so awesome! Lifetime memories.....
Congrats to your daughter for keeping things steady when those longbeards were in your laps! My adrenaline/anxiety watching that was making my heart race!!!

Awesome turkey!! Nicely done. I shot mine Friday evening in Utah. I have to say that your daughter shot a bigger gobbler than I did.

There is nothing better than this! It can also be the most frustrating time though when you get one of these new hunters and you're begging them to take the shot. Seems like they are taking forever!

Loved watching those toms do their thing.

That is really awesome. Can't get any better that a parent/kid relationship out in the field. Glad for both of you.

Pretty Dang cool.
Glad she held off on the shot until she got those shakes under control that took a pretty calm mind to not just pull the trigger.
This Young lady will do just fine out in the woods.
Congrats

Congratulations on a great hunt. I somehow missed this post earlier in the year, and am glad to have found it now. I love the look of the hardwoods you are hunting. If you do not mind me asking, what sort of trees are those, and what state are you hunting?

I hope to see more video next season. Nice job!

Thanks, Bullskin! We are in western Wisconsin along the Mississippi river. It's a mix of red and white oaks, some shag bark hickory and a variety of other mixed hard and softwoods.

La Crosse, Wisconsin to be exact.

That's funny. I always thought of Monster Muleys as a site appealing to westerners, but I guess I underestimated the interests of others. That's beautiful country--and I'll bet it looks even better as it greens up after a long, gray winter. I wish you luck this season.
