LAST EDITED ON May-28-18 AT 09:30AM (MST)[p]Know that in no way is this post meant to be disrespectful or ungrateful. Today is Memorial Day, a day to remember those who died in combat, or who have served in the military and have since passed on. Hearing "thank you for your service" is a phrase that always makes me uncomfortable. Partly because compliments in general make me uncomfortable, and partly because my service pales in comparison to the veterans of the two World Wars, the Vietnam and Korean wars, and the wars of the last 17 years. But it's especially uncomfortable today, because today is a day of remembrance, to memorialize those Veterans that have passed on. This is the only day that they and their families have left, and there are millions of them! Today, take some time to think of them as you're enjoying that barbecue with family and friends. These are the Camp Ripley grave sites of my two Vietnam veteran uncles, and my grandfather's flag for his service in WWII. These are the men I will be turning my phone off for, and remembering today. Have a safe Memorial Day!
