Outdoor "celebrities"

I listen to a ton of podcasts, read a bunch. Don't really like outdoor tv, but do watch a fair share of you tube.

I listened to Jre with Uncle Ted, and Ted was talking about how a lot of newer "celebrities" don't like him and his harshness. His point was too many of them are starting to talk about, and show hunting like its golf, high brow, reserved, etc.

Do you guys think the pendulum is now swinging to far the other way from the posse, dancing, screaming crowd that once dominated outdoor entertainment? Ted's point was its gotta be fun, if its not who wants to do it.

Personally there is a cooler company ad manager with a podcast that I find just as irritating as uncle Ted, bit on the other side(all pics are grip and grab, therefore bad).

Curious as to you guys thoughts.

I feel like there are a tiny handful that use their platform well.

Newberg being the gold standard. Rinella, Rogan.

Past that, it seems like a lot of guys who wanted to be "famous" and are following a trend, each one trying to be more high brow than the next. But it seems like 10 yrs ago they would have been posse members dancing around.

Maybe I'm just red azzed but Yeti add guy has become so sanctamonious, its off putting.

Nothing bugs me more than the elitists have their dink measuring contest on how pure their form of hunting is. Drives me nuts. Then again, so does Ted.

It probably has more to do with my personality than it does the damage these celebrities do to our sport but I can't stomach the "hunting" shows like I used to.

It's reality, kind of like Survivor Island! Just guys puffing about their hunting prowess when we all know that many of our own "regular" MM member can really get it done and several do vastly more amounts of good for wildlife and outdoorsmen than these celebs ever will!!!

....and yes, I believe there are a couple really good hunting celebs but the vast majority are sub-par according to me.

>I would put Nate Simmons along
>side Newberg as the only
>two "celebrities" worth watching.

+1 on Newberg & Simmons, both are class acts. Western Hunter is a good show along with On Fresh Tracks with Randy Newberg. Eastman's &
Meateater aren't bad either. Those are the only shows I will watch!!

Randy Newberg and Remi Warren have done the most to educate me as a hunter - tougher to do since I'm almost 30 years deep in my hunting career. Nothing high-brow about either one.

Is "Uncle Ted" Ted Nugent? That guy is not doing hunters or gun owners any favors...

Newberg cares more about public lands than almost any other host in the industry-even putting out his own TED talk with a broader appeal to non-hunters because hunters can't do it all alone. I'd give a shout out to Tim Burnett there too.

Newberg also has changed the paradigm on how hunting shows are made with his day-by-day YouTube hunts. Which I am a big fan of because they are so much more than a pre-roll/kill shot/boredom fest. It's a whole hunt you can participate in.

These guys are educators and role models for other hunters, and I think their is value to counteract the DuckCommanders and O'Neills and Raglands and Lee and Tiffany's out there who are only selling something at the expense of a more in depth understanding and appreciation for what we all have at stake.

Shout out to the Mountain Project for their variety. Chase from MM put out 45 YouTube episodes of that this spring with some great adventures.

Mtn project has best intro song!!

My point was it feels like it went from catch phrases and posse, to now a bunch of over the top high brow crap.

Grip and grins are horrible. Gotta rock only $2k in technical gear. Supplements. Reserved, blah, blah.
To the point that I wonder if they love hunting, or if they love the industry and celebrity.

We see posts in here from time to time from new guys wanting to get involved, but they are overwhelmed with all the "proper" gear, or things they must have or must do.

I live out in the woods with no tv and spotty internet so i dont see all the shows... but when i do i' m always surprised how bad they are. Do you all yell "SMOKED 'IM!!!" everytime you shoot something, too? Exceptions are Meateater and Western Hunter. They re realistic, with the guys sometimes going home empty handed. They show love for the outdoors, the experience, and respect for the animals we hunt. The others are just ads for some whitetail reserve... Cant forget that they only exist through ad revenue, selling us some new gear. Thus the celebrities are what they need for their dumbass shows. The idea of being a "hunting celebrity" is pretty far removed from the act of hunting, but our society is getting pretty ridiculous all around!

I really enjoy Randy Newberg, Nate Simmons, Solo Hunter (Tim & Remi), and Meat Eater. Most of the time I like the Hushn and Born & Raised stuff, even though I don't agree with all of their content, they seem like good dudes.

I struggle with all of the long range shows, Eastman's, Cam Hanes, etc.

I cut the cable about 3 years ago and consume most everything online. Also, I think Newberg and others started showing day by day hunts following the success of Hush's semi-live series. He's done a good job with them, just wasn't the originator.

Hushin and Randy Newberg started posting day by day stuff within a few months of each other, so although I may be wrong about which came first, there is no question about who puts out a more responsible and sustainable content.

I can't even watch the hushin shows without being embarrassed for all hunters by some of the things they do and say.

BluffGruff, definitely agree with you on that one, Randy is the man and has great content. I was just remembering one of his podcasts where he had the Hushin guys on and credited them for helping him make the switch to online content. It seems like that was before Hushin's New Zealand fisaco though, not sure if they do much together anymore...

>American Sportsman was my all time
>favorite.Used to watch it with
>my dad sippin' a cold
>one on the weekends.

+1....As a kid, I always made it a point to watch that show.

Newberg, Bill Winke of Midwest whitetail, Cam Hanes as a guy even though I don't like his hunting films, Dr. Grant Woods, Zac Griffith, Ben Rising of Whitetail Edge and the Born and Raised outdoors crew is pretty decent. I cannot stomach mainstream high fence canned hunt bullshit. The hunting public also has a good youtube channel....

Speaking of youtube:

StuckinRut
Solvid
Solohunter
Chasing November
Land of the Free

are about as solid as it comes

The trouble is the Fall From Grace so many of them succumb to, which is what the general public sees. On the whole I see no benefit for our sport.
