Founder's wife scalped!

Our illustrious leader had a scare back in May. Penny (Founder's wife) is dang lucky to be alive after a horrific ATV accident. I almost always wear a helmet while I'm out riding. But, I never wear one while hunting or on a side by side. What about you guys? Do you wear a helmet all the time or just occasionally like myself? Here is the link to our story so you can look at Penny's scar/skull.

To answer your question, yes, I wear my helmet on my quad all the time (hunting or just recreating). I don't care if it makes me look like an over-cautious wuss. I have an amazing wife and three awesome kids at home. They need their dad to come home in one piece!!

Dang! Brian, I am glad to hear that Penny will be okay. That must have been scarey but it's a good reminder to all of us. Wish Penny the best of luck with her recovery.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-12-18 AT 08:27PM (MST)[p]It is personal. Adam and Brian are great friends.

I rarely wear a helmet. But a helmet saved my life once, when the four wheeler rolled and the handle bar punched a hole in side of the helmet. I probably should use them more.

Glad she is safe! Buy her dinner, Founder.

Utards never cease to amaze.....

I'm not an expert but seems like if this founder character wanted it posted, he has the means to do so....

So glad you guys are ok!! Penny, you're one tough lady! A lot tougher then Founder. Did you know that guy is terrified of tiny little mice? :) Life is short, i'm glad you're recovering and getting back on your feet!

Scary deal for sure. I think we were VERY lucky. Could have turned out so, so much worse. So thankful it didn't, and so thankful I have her here. Definitely should've been wearing a helmet on that wheeler. Just stupid of me not to have taken better care of her.

Founder and Penny get it! Hopefully someone will see this and get a helmet, and use it. If you don't do it for yourself do it for those who care about you. Trust me, I know.

If you're hunting out west and you see someone on a Honda Foreman wearing a helmet, it's probably me. I always wear a helmet!

I'm shocked at how no one does! In fact, I can't remember a past hunt where I ever saw another hunter riding their ATV or SxS past me wearing a helmet. If you ride one and don't wear a helmet, "Here's your sign" as Jeff Foxworthy would say.

Glad it wasn't worse.

Thanks for putting this on your show Adam. And a big thanks to Brian and Penny for giving Adam permission to share this story with such a big audience.

We always wear our helmets snowboarding, rock climbing and mountain biking. Different helmets for all those activities, plus enough motorcycle helmets hanging in the garage for all of us. We put them on the kids, but not us. Dumb! I should?ve been smarter. I was even nervous letting them ride that 4-wheeler because it's a big machine and I worry that something could happen. I've heard plenty of stories that haven't ended well. Yet I let them on it and didn't do my job of taking care of her.
You just never know when something totally unforeseen and unthinkable could go wrong.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-13-18 AT 04:56PM (MST)[p]To air my stupidity, I don't even own a helmet. I think I'm a pretty cautious ATV operator, but this post may have me headed to check out some headgear.
Thanks for the post fstop and Founder's remarks. Real happy your wife and daughter are OK. Probably plenty of us needed the wake up call.

My wife watched Penny's story tonight. I promised her I would wear a helmet anytime I am on a four wheeler or side by side. She promised to do the same. It's a state law for my 10 year old to wear it. Now, it's the law in our house. Penny's crash and the possibility of watching my friend go through something needless is something I'll remember every time I put a helmet on. I hope many of you do the same. Adam

Damn, I hope everyone heals up with no other problems

Glad everyone is OK. Reinforces my belief to forego ATV's in favor of leg power. I borrowed one once for a Book Cliffs huny in 1997. Found it noisy and cumbersome. Took away from my outdoor experience. Never looked back.

WOW!! So glad Penny is OK and appreciate the information.

I'm terrible about helmets. Don't use an ATV much except for spraying weeds and irrigating, but I sometimes use one for scouting or a hunt in CO. I'll learn from this.

I'm glad it wasn't worse and she recovered okay.

I never wear a helmet, but right now I am nursing injuries from rolling my 4-wheeler while chasing some cows that got out of their pasture three weeks ago.

All I did was tip my wheeler on its side, but I got roughed up pretty good. I sprained my big toe and it swelled up to double normal size, I bonked my knee on something, and it is still sore, and my ribs landed on a rock and they still hurt a lot. My head didn't hit anything, so in this case a helmet wouldn't have helped.

Glad she has recovered.

I always wear a helmet. Always wear safety glasses also. Lots of briars, limbs, etc... come flying by.
