Grizz hunting is over

I am assuming they will appeal this decision. Too much power for one man to have. If the law is blind in this case (just the facts Mam), I have some oceanfront property...??...

venor, ergo sum (I hunt, therefore I am)

Complete failure of the ESA. Population objectives have been met yet the states do not get control over the species. SMH....

saddling up anyway."

The problem is the ESA is one of the most important conservation laws ever passed. When it is misapplied, such as here, it raises the furor to dismantle or significantly diminish the ESA which could potentially do much harm to future species in desperate need of our protection.

In other words, we could potentially throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Since it appears this years hunt might not happen...why doesn't someone get in touch with that GoFundMe group, the one that raised tens of thousands $$$ for non hunters to get a grizz tag (and photograph the bears) and ask them to donate that money to the family of the guide that was recently killed?

grizzly,
I your three sentences you said a whole lot. And I agree with you.

It amazes me that one federal judge can make a decision that affects so much and there be no way to challenge the decision :-(

Since when does a federal judge know anything about wildlife conservation?

The ESA was an act of Congress and should remain so. If that is a right granted back to the states as outlined in the 10th Amendment, a fed judge has no place to make a ruling, it is completely out of their hands...

Never trust the granola anti-hunting groups and their liberal judges. They will make excuses and change their minds on sound objectives and laws.

There is another side to that coin. It could be viewed in the light of saying that those who are filing these frivolous lawsuits against valid hunts, and therefore basically militarizing the ESA for their own agenda, may cause harm to a whole bunch more species in their quest to save a few grizzly bears that no longer appear to be a threatened species. It's all a matter of perspective, I guess.

I understand what you are saying, Grizz. I guess my question becomes...if this is how the ESA is going to be used by anti-hunters, what should hunters and states that believe these species are no longer threatened do? Just take it and continue to leave grizzly bears unchecked?

We're agreeing. I feel the ESA was misapplied by the judge which will lead to the growing call to dismantle the ESA and thus further harm species that need protection. There has been activity in the House and Senate just today in response.

The best thing the judge/environmentalists could have done to save the ESA is to allow animals to be removed from it once their status is sufficiently safe.

Too bad this judge can't be taken to court for murderer as people are dying from grizzly overpopulation. I would at least invite him to visit the murder site and spend some time deep in the heart of grizzly country as to see his mistake.

This is exactly what happened with wolf delisting in Idaho. The only way this is going to change is standing together as sportsman, gettingorganized, going after legislators, and the game and fish departments. We got it done on the wolves and we can get it done on grissleys, but all sportsman have to get involved. The guys in these small towns around the wyo, mont, and Idaho borders who are fighting to get these grizz hunts passed need help with petitions, town meetings and just a massive influx of of support from all sportsman. The judge needs to see this. When there's enough pissed off people change will happen.I know this because I was on the front line of the wolf battle, it was ugly and took a lot of years of my life and these radical enviromental groups are really no more than a handful people on the ground with a big internet following. We can beat them.
