Cabelas brand gear guarantee being eliminated?

I've read/heard that 1) the bargain caves in the retail stores are being eliminated, and 2) the Cabelas legendary brand guarantee is being eliminated at the end of 2018 since they are now owned by bass pro.

Has anyone heard similar?

Thoughts?

What Cabela's guarantee? Every time I have tried to take something back to there I get the same thing. They say that is normal wear and tear and they don't cover that. Guess if you don't ever wear or use the stuff then maybe there is a guarantee.

I have 28 pairs of the Cabela's "Lifetime Guarantee Socks" and after 10 years of wear the ones with holes from normal were replaced. After another 10 years or so I hope that they will be replaced when I go to the Reno Cabela's in 2 weeks.

Not that I have returned much to Cabela's for product issues over the years, but when I did, they replaced such items no questions asked. But the Red Head Brand, my first purchase was my last, products didn't even make it through the first hunt.

Yea what guarantee?

I had one of those big cabelas tents that kinda looked like a pyramid with a center pole. I used it 3 times and the door zipper blew out. I took it back with the original receipt and they said I was SOL because I had it for 4 years. Then I said yea but I only used it 3 times. She then offered to give me a $150 credit if I bought a new one. I laughed.

I returned a pair of Meindl boots, started leaking the third season. No questions asked, they gave me a brand new pair.

Seems like some folks have had issues with returns though.

I will say I had a massive customer service issue with cabelas a few years ago - made a huge purchase and found out it was advertised wrong. It was downright deplorable how they handled their mistake. I no longer do much business with them as a result.

Guy buys something. Guy uses that something. Then uses it again, and again, and again 5 more times.

The something wears out and somehow the guy is pissed because the store won't replace it?

If all businesses replaced everything when it wore out, all businesses would go bust leaving you with Chinese and Thailand products.

Now you have a legitimate gripe when it breaks.

A manufacturer can't ensure that the user won't walk like a duck on a roof, or be a clutz afield.

I'm with roadrunner. I don't buy much from Cabela's, but far too many guys use the crap out of their gear and when it wears out, like all things do, they expect to be compensated the full price they paid 5 years ago. It makes no sense.

I believe they stand behind things with good faith and logic. You received something defective, they replace it. If you wear it out, they owe you nothing in my opinion.

I wonder if Bass Pro is starting to phase Cabelas out?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-04-18 AT 10:30PM (MST)[p]I bought a pack from Cabelas few years back & 2 days later it went on sale. I called customer service & they gave me a refund from original price to sell price. Thought it was pretty generous as they could have said SOL. I have had good luck with their customer service on the very few things that I have returned. Even though they advertise lifetime warranty on things if I used something & wore it out I wouldn't even try to get it replaced from them unless it was defective.

So?

There's No Lifetime Warranties in this Lifetime?:D

I bought a Cabela's Gore-Tex coveralls on sale ($300) with a Lifetime leak proof guarantee and I had them longer than I thought, about 8 years, wore them about 10 times, always carried to my stand in a back pack. The arse started to leak, bought them back to the Pa. store and the woman said they were older than 3-4 years they won't replace them. Some guarantee! Also, they looked up my credit card info and told me when I bought them and for how much! I don't know how many times I've heard people ask can't you look up my credit card info since I don't have the receipt and the Cabela's employee says "we can't do that", oh yes they can!

Was talking to sales guy in Farmington a while ago. Said Bass Pro walked in and fired all the managers on day 1.

Said they are changing the gun library because the higher end guns don't sell.

Said the huge losses they take on dudes buying hi end glass and ewuopment, using it for their hunt then returning it helped kill bargain cave.

My business card is a black cabelas visa. Apparently they are changing that as well.

I still feel like Cabelas screwed up with expansion. It was once a destination. I drove to Nebraska to check one out.

I've had a Cabelas Black Credit Card for probably 20 years. Most of my hunting gear has come from Cabelas, from Cabelas Bucks from using the card. Never tried to return something I used for several years, but occasionally I have sent something back because it was defective. Never had any issues with returning it.

Haven't heard anything about the Bargain Cave or the Guarantee.

Haven't purchased a ton from Cabela's but I agree that the expansion was a poor decision. The few items I did return to Cabela's was never an issue but none of them were years out they were within a year typically. I have a Sportsmans Warehouse within a mile of my place so typically go there.

+1 on Cabelas going to crap lately.
I have had so many things on back order with them that I turn around and get at Sportsmans within days with free shipping.
I have been a Black card member for over 10 years. Last week they were converting their system for the cards and I couldn't make a payment for the last 5 days. My payment was due last week, used my card yesterday and they had locked it because my payment was 5 days late (Cabelas recently converted to Capitol One which changed my scheduled payment day and I missed the changed day.) First time in 10 years I haven't prepaid the whole card amount. After 45 minutes on the phone with Capital One customer service, I made the decision to ditch the black card. This place has gone down hill big time.

I was told some time ago that the Bargain Caves were being closed in all but the largest stores. That was confirmed by another Cabelas employee last week; as she indicated there would be bargain caves only in the big Cabelas stores like the ones in Rogers, MN and Kansas City.

I was also told that in the future the fishing stuff would be Bass Pro and the hunting stuff would be Cabelas, although I question that, as a lot of the camo clothes now are Red Head brand. A young person in the fishing section indicated the Cabelas brand fishing rods (Tourney Trail, etc.) would probably be gone in the future.

Also, was told all stores will have both Cabelas and Bass Pro signs on the front of the store with the words "Outdoor World" positioned between those signs. The stores would be called "Outdoor World"

There are a lot of changes coming to these stores and I think only time will tell whether those changes will be positive or negative.

Just making an observation there slugger...

I remember when you could go to the bargain cave and get either a pair of pants, or a shirt for 10 bucks...but not in Grand Junction. Here it was pretty much a bargain in name only.

The Bargain Cave here is now closed.

Well, Cabelas gear is in the toilet ever since BassPro took over, Cabelas brand cloths are not the same quality anymore. Many quality items have been downgraded or completely discontinued. I saw it coming so we stocked up on cloths before they discontinued items. But in the future will need to look to other brands and pay more......Cabelas had quality at good prices...now its junk, BassPro garments Redhead are garbage.....Sad that BassPro turned Cabelas into what it is today. Remember things don't last forever and there is normal wear and tear...doesn't mean you have a longer than normal warranty and you get a hole in a sock and it should be replaced....you want good quality socks...spend the money and purchase SmartWool socks.....lol....

))))???->

Cabelas?s has always taken care of me over the years. I am nervous about the influence BP May have on there policies now that they purchased them.

"Easy now, keep the croshairs right behind his shoulder & squeeze the trigger"

Never had a problem with either as far as quality on the things I've bought from either store, before and after the merger.

What I have had problems with are big name "quality" made outdoor clothing stuff with a hefty price tag to go along with it.

Imagine Sitka, Kuiu, First Lite, etc. have seams pull apart with only days of wear and tear...

I'm one of these guys who thinks fair is fair when it comes to wear and tear and I don't like to return stuff unless there is a true defect. That being said a lot of companies will advertise a lifetime guarantee--or even an unconditional lifetime guarantee in order to sell more products. If companies are going to take that risk then I think they shouldn't complain when people take them up on it.

+1
