Bess, how is the crowd going to be any bigger than normal?

I had the 3 season tag and filled it on the archery hunt, actually know quite a few guys that did the same. If anything the crowd is going to be smaller.

No matter how you slice it, 15000 tags is 15000 tags. they have sold out every year for a long time.

But in past years you and the guys you know probably would have bought an archery tag, so no matter what, you wouldn't have been hunting the rifle. So the fact that you tagged out doesn't really change anything.

On the other hand all the unsuccessful archery hunters, who would normally be done hunting can now join the normal rifle crowd. Especially since the vast majority of archery hunters are unsuccessful, it will definitely be busier this year, no matter how you shake it. Your taking a bunch of guys (85+% of archery hunters are unsuccessful) who would normally have to be done hunting and then giving them a tag with all the guys who would normally be rifle hunting anyway. I'm not even saying the multi-season thing was the wrong thing to do, but you can't deny there are going to be more rifle hunters out there because of it.

Yeah we wouldnt be hunting anyway, but because we bought a 3 season tag that means there is a guy that normally buys a rifle tag that did not get a tag. There is 15000 any weapon/ muzzy tags sold every year, there are around 12000 archery tags sold every year, every archery hunter that bought a 3 season tag pulled out of the 15000 any weapon tags, meaning that there was somebody that normally hunts the rifle that did not get the tag. at the very most there could only be as many people as any other year because there are only 15000 tags.

And what about all the other archery hunters that bought the 3 season, and didn't harvest on the archery, that are now hunting the rifle. I would think that there are a lot more of those out there than those that harvested during the archery. Otherwise the archery success must be outstanding to 100%. The odds are against your logic. You also have all the muzz hunters that bought the 3 season, are now hunting the rifle, that wouldn't be if the 3 season tag wasn't offered. Those muzz hunters have always come out of the pool of 15,000. Anyway you slice it, the odds are that there are more pumpkins out there on the rifle.

What weighs more a ton of feathers or a ton of rocks?

15000 tags is 15000 hunters it does not matter how you slice it.
Yes there most likely a few Muzzy hunters hunting the rifle hunt but statewide I really do not think you notice that much. The archery hunters probably had the largest increase in hunters.

Hunted North slope. My boy and I have multi season tags. It seemed crowded, but not sure if that's multi season totally or the Murdoch fire moving guys.

Either way, nothing changed.

I never saw another hunter in the trees. Saw lots of dudes cruising roads, camping, enjoying themselves, but very few actually hiking.

95% of them went back to work Sunday.

It snowed like a biatch for 3 days, cold as a witches titty.

Saw maybe 4 elk hanging in camps. My 12yr olds 6 point being the biggest by far.

In short, there are very few bulls in n. Slope. Even fewer dudes in the deep, dark ACTUALLY hunting them.

Pretty much same as every year.

As a Lifetimer I do have a tag and I am going . I may not take a deer. But to be in the outdoors and enjoying the hunt. Yes I will be there. But not many of you in my unit. Last year I spent some alone time hunting deer. It was nice.In a general unit.

Myself, my son and grandson, ran into 2 trucks and 1 was dwr.opening weekend. Seemed everyone stayed away because of weather. When it was to foggy to glass, we looked.for tracks in the snow. When we could see we glassed. It was really strange ,in our area we didnt see alot of hunters. Not.many elk either. Alot of fun tho.

Again for every archery hunter that bought a 3 season tag there was a strictly rifle/muzzy guy that did not get a tag. And for all those guys that didn't tag out on archery I doubt most of them have much more than the weekends to hunt during the rifle. I'm sure most of them used there vacation time to hunt the archery hunt like they always do.

If memory serves me right they said there was only like 1200 muzzy tags sold each year. Not sure how many of those guys bought 3 season but probably a fair share of them, still doubt it made much of a difference overall.

I know the area my family hunts had a lot fewer hunters than a normal year.

Either way there is not any more people in the hills with a tag in hand than any other year. I dont care what you say the math just doesn't add up. My logic is sound.

Sorry jake it's not. When they proposed the all 3 season hunts I first thought sweet, MY tag will count as 3. It does NOT.

Yeah cause that would be stupid, your tag should not count as 3 tags.

Why would it? Your not killing 3 elk are you?

Again, at the end of the day you have the same amount of rifle tags as you have had on ANY OTHER YEAR!!!! they did not increase the tags. So how is there extra people in the hills????

There will be an increase on the Muzzloader hunt, and there was a possible increase on the archery hunt, but as far as the rifle hunt there is not a crap load of extra guys running around with a tag in hand.

well I was up there for a week and it was the same as it has been maybe a little more but not by much I think the muzzy hunt going to be bad though.

You are right (and I was wrong. I will always be man enough to admit it.) about the archery, as I didn't completely understand how the multi-season tags were given out, but the same concept still applies to the muzzy and rifle tags.

There is 15,000 rifle and muzzy tags combined. In previous years when you bought a rifle tag you couldn't hunt the muzzy and when you bought the muzzy you couldn't hunt the rifle. This year you could buy the multi-season and hunt both. I feel like that is a lot of muzzy hunters who would be hunting the rifle now, and probably even more rifle hunters hunting the muzzy when they couldn't have in the past. Maybe some people buying the multi-season and tagging out in archery, like yourself, will offset that, but success rates are so low in archery, I highly doubt it. I still think there is increased pressure everywhere, no matter how you slice it.

Once again, I'll say I'm not totally against the multi-season tags, but I just think they do increase the pressure on all seasons. The rifle hunt will be the least affected, but they ALL should see an increase in pressure.

I have been talking about the rifle hunt in particular as that is the most popular hunt. The muzzy hunt is going to be a circus compared to any other year. I will fully admit that, that is by far going to be the most affected hunt, I have said that all along, I did not see an increase of guys during the archery hunt but I also tagged out pretty early and was not in the hills as much as normal, I have herd reports that it was a mess, and that it was no different than any other year, Im sure that last week of the season seen an increase of people hoping to get into some rutting elk.

I think the number of "mostly archery" guys getting multi season tags even though they do not tag out on the archery hunt will not be hunting the rifle hunt with the same intensity as the guys that would be hunting the rifle hunt in there place. meaning they most likely will be hunting the weekends and not taking vacation and spending a full week up in the mountains going hard the full week. This is speculation on my part but that is how I feel.

As far as muzzy guys getting multi tags, if my memory serves me right when they discussed this at the RAC and WB meetings last year they said there was around 1200 muzzy tags bought out of the 15000 total, if even 50% of those guys bought the 3 season tag that is not a significant number of people to effect the rifle hunt. (again im going from memory and that number could be off but even if you double it its not a huge amount compared to the rifle hunt)

I will say this, the area my family hunts during the rifle hunt seen a lot less people and camps in the area, the area is usually flooded with camps, this year there was 3 including my familys.

Huge reduction in people in our area.

I like the oppurtnity the multi season hunt offers me personally, as I have not hunted with my family during the rifle elk hunt for many years, but if it was taken away it really wouldnt effect me all that much.
