B & C Scoring

My co-worker wacked a dandy coues deer last year in Mexico, and was told by the taxidermist in AZ that his deer could be scored after it was mounted. We recently contacted a local scorer and he said he cant score it, it has to be scored on the skull. Does anyone have advice? Its a hell of a buck.

Not likely you will get anywhere with a reality of putting it in a book.

It's impossible to confirm that the skull plate is intact without destroying the mount.

Score it yourself just to see how big it is and move on with life.

As long as the skin was tanned correctly it is more than likely possible to just re-hydrate the top portion of the mount open the top confirm the skull is in tact and sew it back up. Plenty of deer have been scored officially for B&C on mounts.

I would have it scored on the mount and see where it is landed. That is a great buck but I don't know if its gonna quite net out over the 110" minimum.

And that is a great looking mount for a stud buck!

The scorer might not want to bother with scoring it, but there's nothing else preventing him from doing so. Sure, it's a little easier to score one with just a skull plate, before it's mounted, but really not that big a deal to measure a mounted head. If it was a near world-record and needed to be panel scored, it's possible you might be asked to allow it to be x-rayed. They don't need you to break down a mount. For routine hunter kills, they will generally take your word for it being legitimate, as long as you sign their Affidavit:

I'm pretty sure that mounted critters can be officially scored and entered into the books. Not sure what your scorers problem is! I'd search for a different official scorer!

There's a B&C Scorer in KALI!

On the way into his Place there's a Sign that says:

Your Guide/Outfitter Mighta Told You it was 200"!

On the way out there's a Sign that says:

As long as the skull plate hasn't been cut ( between the antlers ) it can be officially scored.
