LAST EDITED ON Jan-17-19 AT 01:04PM (MST)[p]Looked in the manual and it showed do not run them with my tire size not enough clearance. Can't afford to buy new wheels tires for 1 week a year.

Figured someone in here would have a idea. Or what they run.
08 1500 4wd. Tires are not aggressive but do fine in snow etc.

Will be doing colorado 3rd season rifle in the unit 18 and associating units.nov 3 through 11th I believe.

I'll be brining a 4 wheeler and small trailer to get me in further where I can pack around etc.

Any ideas would be appreciative.

My plan was to sleep in the truck as a base camp. I've never been in the area in winter time.

Almost every new vehicle says no to run them in the manual. They are tricky, but the bigg issue is getting them tight and not letting them contact the brake lines etc.

If you really want chains, look for an off road specialty shop and have them fit a custom pair.

all the above....there should be no issue in the back....keep them good and tight and try not to steer lock to lock for the front....be gentle when turned fully...

GOODWIN: Dems really do love Republicans -- when they're dead...

Put a set of lug reinforced chains on your four wheeler. If that doesn't work, you are someplace you shouldn't be!!!

I figured it was just a gm ass coverering. I figured as long as they are good and tight and not flopping around like grandma's ##### and stay under 65 it'll be fine.

The fronts won't work for sure so rears only

Any specific type you felled reccomends? Never had to run them before.

It Jack's up the abs system if they aren't tight. My buddy found out the hard way.

True. I just don't know what to expect. Rather have something than nothing

I've Got AGGRESSIVE Chains for the Old Hunting Truck!

And I'm Not Talkin the PUSSSSSY Type you can Buy!

We Mighta been Places We Shouldn't Have Been But We Wouldn't Have Been there without them!

If You Can't Put these Type of Chains on your Rig get a Real Huntin Rig!

I know so many people in so many places
They make allot of money but they got sad faces

It Ain't Easy being Me!:D:D:D

I don't know of an alternative to chains. I bought a set of 4 several years ago from etrailer, V-bar cross chains with cam tighteners. ##### type chains I guess, not the "aggressive" chains Elkassassin talks of??. Had to use them for the first time last year during 3rd season in Colorado. Life savers as mother nature dumped about 30-inches of snow on us along the Wyoming border. 35 miles back in the national forest. My Ford truck had the factory Michelan tires on it as the truck was new. Chained up and 4 hours later my truck and 20-foot enclosed trailer made it to pavement. My point is NEVER go hunting or camping without chains! No damage to the truck but I had spent alot of time making sure the chains were as tight as I could physically get them.

V-Bar Chains are Good!

But I Built Mine out of Brand New Semi Chains!

They Have twice as many Cross Links as boughten Chains do!

LAST EDITED ON Jan-17-19 AT 08:56PM (MST)[p]We used to run deuce and a half chains on my willys. They got "taken away" after a few broken axles. Dads!!

Engineers who make trucks with no clearance should be beat.

Having said that, sxs with chains is better than $50k rigs getting torn up

From the party of HUNTIN, FISHIN, PUBLIC LAND.

I wait until just after a snow storm and chains are required on 80. Dunno why, but I've never failed to find less than 4 sets of truck chains on the highway.

?Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. "

These have worked great for me over the years if I happened to get Stuck and need to get out and back on traction.

I stagger the placement, like one strapped on to the front of the tire and the other side strapped on to the rear of the tire.

Sure, it's a little rough going out but it just rocks for a few wheel rotations and then your Out!

I own a auto repair and have worked on cars since 1983. They need to be beat for a multitude of sins much less tire clearance

I80 is a great source for truck chains!
Must be new drivers from Florida that put them on.

My son thinks a 370Z makes a better winter hunting ride!!! Little more expensive than BigJohnT's tho.

Depending on your clearance issue, you might be able to use a wheel spacer to move the tires out away from the brakes and suspension. Will not help with fender clearance, but that can be done with a leveling kit

I have a strange addiction to picking up chains on 80 Hwy 20 and 49 and I got my first on the gold lake road thanksgiving day the dang pile is getting big!

Simple solution is sell the thing and get a Toyota...
Kidding aside that country can get straight nasty and I couldn't imagine not having chains to get around. Anyone who tells you chains are simply a safety net has not spent a day in that country. Chains are a Must coming from somebody who is born and raised in that country.....

When I come out in july im going to stop by les schwab and have some fitted. Rather have them than not and I'll get some for my 4 wheeler as well.

Thanks for the replies

Blank I like that ride ! When clearances are a issue you can always use those cable type chains. Especially when you have to like when you are required to on a highway.
