Reading the other post looks like Black Diamond or Liki are the way to go. Can you take Trekking poles when you fly in your carry on? Where in SLC is a good place to shop for them?

You can fit most of them into a carry on.

The blackovis retail shop should have both kinds.
BlackOvis.com
2291 S Commerce Center Dr Suite 100
West Valley City

REI should have them as well.

I'd call both places first to double check.

I got my Leki?s At camofire.com . The have a little bag that they fold up in maybe a little bigger then I foot. I carry them in my pack that way. So I always have them when I need them.

I gut the foam in my rifle case and pack it full of cloths, fishing poles, rifle, trekking poles, etc. I've done this on many trips from the lower 48 to Alaska with no problem.

You might check out Sierra Trading. I bought my Leki trekking poles for around 1/2 price.

I picked up a pair of Lekis at the camofire booth at the Expo this weekend for $50. Taking them on the plane in a carry-on was no problem. I was a little concerned because I was flying with tools a few years ago and they made me remove anything over 12" long. I had a 24" long 3/8ths drive extension that had to be moved to my checked luggage.
