Podcasters/Youtubers at the Expo

Went to the expo, was real turned off to the atmosphere inside the exhibit hall.

All I saw was guys huddled in a corner with headphones on recording their podcast, most I didn't even recognize.

Made me laugh at how stupid they all looked sitting there recording like they were some media big wigs.

Then you have the social media/Youtubers all signing autographs lol. I mean really?!!

How many of you fall for the celebrity bug when it comes to guys like hush, Newberg, bowmen. I even saw couples that aren't real popular but that were there mingling. What is our industry coming too?

Guys are out to video everything, podcast it weekly, Instagram it, and tour the shows in January/February. For what?... to be famous? Work and make
Money in the hunting business? I wish all that would just go away to be honest with you.

Everyone talks about SFW and rich mans sport. How about totally commercializing our wildlife?

I noticed all the "huddled podcasters" as well but didn't really care or even give it a seconds time of wasted thought.

I'm not one to stand in line for an hour to shake hands and have my hat signed by Cameron Haynes or run around aimlessly trying to see Ted Nugent or even Trump Jr.....they are just "people".

If you sit and pick the expo apart with things YOU disagree with, then you only make your expectations of it suffer.

I go because I am part of the MDF and I enjoy talking with people, bumping into old friends, making new acquaintances, seeing all the amazing taxidermy and just enjoying the excitement and atmosphere that it brings.

I thought the Expo was fantastic this year, bigger and better than ever and I will look forward to spending another 3 days at it again next year.

The Expo is what YOU make it out to be in your own mind, period.
If you choose to pick it apart based off what YOU liked or disliked, then that is what your experience will be.

Slam help me understand how you can have feet on both sides of the fence? Talk out of both sides of your mouth? Talk about how piss poor the management in Utah is but then spend three days supporting the very cause you supposedly disagree with. I guess that's the norm now days???

This will be the true demise of quality animals and our hunting culture. Everything now needs to be glamorized, filmed, and published in order to be valid. It's sickning to see the culture shift from family bonding to social acceptance.

I Tried finding PUNK!

But none of the MDF Guys could tell me where He was!

I Pay No Attention to them Podcasters!

As I Was BS'ing BIGJOHN while we were in the Sheep Draw I Seen Don Peay headed Our Way!

As He Got Close I Hollered at Him:

Hey PEAYDAY!

He Knew it was Me before He even Seen me!

He took a Minute to Talk,Say Hi,We Shook Hands and He was back to Business!

He could'of Ignored Me!

But He didn't!

Now I'll Be Hated for Shaking the Mans Hand!

That's about as Famous as I got at the EXPO!:D

I know so many people in so many places
They make allot of money but they got sad faces

It Ain't Easy being Me!:D:D:D

I have to agree with you but at the same time understand it. I think just like a young person wants to grow up to be a pro athlete
many young hunters think how awesome it would be to make your living doing something you love and you have to start somewhere. Where I think the disconnect is that almost all those folks act like hot stuff and many people think just because they have a podcast or even TV show that these folks are making good money. I worked for an outdoor company for several years and we gave lots of free gear away to folks with TV shows and not a single one made their full time living from the show. There obviously are a few that do but more that don't. If more people realized this maybe there would be less hero worship go on.

Is that why them guys had head sets on, who would of thought.
I guess I am really out of the loop, or maybe just Tech Dummy.
But my boy did enjoy the site of Eva Shockey (no autograph) I did not recognize her. Again I am kind of out of touch.

Just like politics I suppose....I'm not so far left that I cannot see the right and I try seeing both sides.

I cannot do anything about over hunted areas, but I can damn sure get personally involved in conservation efforts.
Although I do not directly get involved with the SFW, I am with the MDF and I fully support our cause.

Short leash, lol

Some of those guys were there to support their sponsors. Many of those sponsors are very supportive of public lands, so I'm holding criticism too much.

Also. I stare at grey walls all day, so podcasts are much better than Florida Georgia Line on continuous radio loop.

But really. Isn't that the whole point of the expo? I've heard for a decade now only $fw can raise money like that. I assumed celebs like Doyle and Eva were what loosened the wallets. I mean who would pay 6 figures for a deer without a glimpse of a PRO HUNTER?

Most important though, which one of you got an autograph from Chaffetz? I'm guessing Bess now that he and PEAY are exchanging Xmas cards, Chaffetz seems like the next step up.

I got caught up in making videos for awhile. It was fun for a bit, but I realized I was starting to get away from the reasons I always liked hunting. I was young and trying to get Instafamous. I have gone back to hunting on my own terms. I still make Youtube videos. I just make them private videos and the only ones that can watch them are me and my family. That way I will always have them. They're like family home videos.

I attended the expo once again. I realized that a lot of that social media stuff is actually pretty dorky! I got caught up in it for awhile, I am not judging anyone. I think if you take a step back, most people realize that the whole social media hunting scene is pretty childish. Even posting on forums like I am doing right now is a little childish, but hey I am not perfect. I try to stay off forums for the most part now. Can't help checking out this one every once in awhile.

Agreed with a lot of what your saying. In the same boat, getting back to hunting for the reasons I enjoyed as a kid.

I just converted 15 full length 8MM hunting tapes to digital so I could save them, and show the young un's. Watching on hi-def computer now, I realize, I really sucked at being a movie star. Sure bring back a lot of memories tho!!

I didn't attend the expo, but I do listen to podcasts and have heard a few recorded at shows. I thought it strange to record a podcast in that atmosphere. On a side note of all the hype, how about Steve Rinella doing his tours? He and his crew are booking shows and selling them out and all it is is for folks to get a chance to hang out with him. Good for him to make money but people just want to be acquainted with someone famous I guess.

I have an 8 yr old who is obsessed with Steve. Is prefer that to any athlete or rapper.

I'm a hypocrite on this. I am the first to trash the posse, theme song, kill shot tv shows. But that boy and I watch you tube episodes every night.

We watched all
Newberg
Meateater BRO 2.0
Elk101 destination elk
Nearly done with HUSH
Then we will start Mountain project.

I like that he is exposed to places I haven't been, and to guys who are fun. And I'd rather he watch them than pretty much any tv shows

Having said that I'm in no hurry to get an autograph or attend a show.

I still seperate out Newberg and Steve.

Newberg has been on the public land crusade since before most of those guys were out if diapers.

I feel Steve is the best spokesman we have for the outdoor lifestyle.

I went to the expo, put in for tags, spent some money at a couple vendor booths, talked to a few guys I haven't seen since last time I was at the expo 5 years ago. Brought a friend new to hunting and he really enjoyed it. Checked out the taxidermy and enjoyed the day.

I don't agree or necessarily like sfw and wouldn't be sad if the tags went back to the general pool. But the opportunity is there for the tags and I would like to go hunting.

I've had offers and opportunities to film hunts and maybe be famous in the outdoor world but I turned them down. If you turn it into a job it becomes work and it's not enjoyable. It's my escape.

I guess I'm old and stupid to, I saw the guys with headphones and I didn't even know what they were doing. I have never heard a podcast. It just amazes me all these guys want to be the next poster boy. The last thing I or my daughter would do is stand in line for an autograph . I not sure what a lot of these groups or guys do. For example what does the group HUSH do?

HUSH stands for hunt/fish, but I don't see them much involved in the fishing side.
It's basically a cool new trendy logo on hats and shirts.

I made some hats, t-shirts, mugs, bumper stickers, hoodies, mouse pads, jackets, pillowcases, posters, beer mugs, wall murals, and vehicle wraps of the buck I shot last year. Who wants to buy some?

You can get them all at,

speaking of a TARD!!! oh well never mind...

I can guarantee that Eva had no influence on anyone to buy any of the tags. I doubt she even understood the concept of the auction in general. Let alone influenced in anyway. On the other hand I wouldn't consider Doyle a celebrity he's a outfitter who offers a service where he takes people hunting and or brings in the big money clients to buy the tags in order to guide them. I doubt one Tag was sold there because of Eva or Cam- the only reason she was there is because MtnOps paid her and Cam an ungodly amount of money to be there. They both hunt Utah on tags purchased by underarmour. They give nothing back to Utah or conservation. Mossback has been there from day 1 booking hunts. Eva & Cam have been there 3 years getting paid. I can guarantee you when MtnOps stops paying them to promote their products ?they don't even use? you will never see them at Expo again. They could careless about conservation. They are all about appearance fees so suckers can stand in line for 2hrs to get stupid autographs it could be worse though. How bout the utards standing in line to get HUSH autographs that's are truly worthless and down right comical!

Not even if it makes me a better hunter. Sorry for the rant, but jeezus.... I can't stand some of this shhiitt, on YouTube. Most from Utah guys. What is going on with us Utah guys. Some guys need to film everything they do in their daily routines. Like it's never been done before LOL... again sorry fellas if this affends anybody, but Geezus.....

My current situation precludes me from caring about your opinion but go ahead and give voice to it anyway...

Podcasters- Is this a new baitcasting rig? I got one a few years ago that the handle didn't spin and it was great! no more knuckle bustin.

I saw a utube once an incredible girl was fishing in a bikini Now I would want to see that being made.

What are "flatty's"?

What is this EXPO thing? Is that where everyone crowds indoors dressed in camo to talk about being outdoors? I went to one 25 years ago in Denver and it was ridiculous, had a 20x10 fake cornfield set up on concrete floor.

Pretty sure it was fake cause there is no way those roots went into that floor.

You guys speak in a funny language for sure.

I wanted to see what the hell this HUSH crap is about so i saw a youtube of his self-proclaimed famous barnwall of "trophy " bucks. Crickets here... sorry they are not that big and his brother shot half of em!!! What a lame-0. Oh yeah, and his flat brim looks stupid!!!
