Importing Trophies Question

Going on Spain on a Beceite Ibex hunt pretty soon and started looking into the process to get trophies back to the states. Was wondering:
1) Do most people do this process themselves or hire someone to do it? If you hired a company, would like some recommendations.
2) Does the shipment have to go straight to a taxidermist in the states? I ask because I currently work and live in Norway but don't want to mess with the import process twice, so I just want to send it to family in the states and maybe pick a taxidermist at a later date.

Thanks for the info.

Howdy,

I am not a perfect resource for these questions but I think I can help. Most of my clients usually have a third party logistics company clear their international shipments for them. I personally use and recommend Lynette Lily at Well Worldwide Energy Logistics. She can be reached at (281)-606-2400.

As far as storing your trophies here until you are ready for them that can be a little more complicated. If your trophies have a USDA hold placed on them then they would have to go to a USDA approved treatment facility first. This might be your taxidermist or a tanner and then they could treat and release the trophies to you. Most of the time this is because of porcine parts being in a shipment but they will hold up shipments without porcine sometimes because they are a federal agency that likes f---ing with people's stuff and feeling important.

I would suggest you contact Lynette and she can give you perfect answers even to new questions you may have now.

Cheers

There are others that you can contact as well. Safari Specialty Importers, Well worldwide, Trophy Shippers, and Coppersmith all get good reviews from the African market.

The only one I have used personally is Safari Specialty Importers and have nothing but great things to say about them. For the additional $450ish I paid to have them take care of everything was well worth the expense. I signed some documents before my hunt, they reached out to my outfitter, and I didn't have to worry about anything until I got billed for the shipping 3 months later. They took care of all the arrangements to get the stuff to the US and to the USDA approved tannery in Texas. I had a swine product in my shipment so it had to go there first.

I used well worldwide for a hunt in Africa and had no issues. My shipment went straight to my taxidermist here in the states, but I don't see why you couldn't ship straight to your family.
