On May 27, 2010 I was hit with a severe case of anxiety disorder! I was working late that day and I knew that the Nevada tag results were to be posted sometime before 5 pm. I had asked a buddy of mine to keep checking the site for results and let me know what area my son drew for his junior deer hunt. About 4:00 my cell phone started ringing so I answered and it was him. He said, " let me give you the good news first, jordan drew area 221 for his deer hunt, now for the bad news (joking) you drew a archery bull tag for area 231!" I was working in a place that a scream of disbelief caused a few heads to look my way so I had to keep the excitement down until I got off work a few hours later! During those few hours a sense of excitement mixed with a hint of panic started to set in. Having just recieved news that I had drawn one of the most coveted archery tags in all of Nevada created a mixed bag of emotions that is really inexplicable! Now I hope and pray that I can bring you all along with me on this hunt of a life time and share the excitement with me on my quest to seal the deal, and find a cure..... A GOOD NEVADA BULL ELK!

P.S. I will post scouting pics and videos as best I can.....

I can't sleep, when i do my sleep is flooded with dreams and scenarios of the kill shot. Anxiety awakens me with thoughts of passed misses and blown stalks!

My heart races with the thoughts of big bugling bulls all around me but none of which I can get close enough to kill. As I toss and turn a hot flash races thru my body thinking of my hands grasping the antlers of a 380 typical 6x6!.... will there be any elk at all? When should I take time off work?

AHHHHHHH !!! Where will the elk be when I get there?.....alarm going off! wait am I dreaming?....... No! I get up and stumble to the closet to get ready for work only to realize I have put on my camo.......

My wife is asking if I'm ok all the time... "Of course", I say. But not really my anxiety is raging in side with anticipation of my hunt......STAY TUNED FOLKS!!!

Hey guys and gals just checkin in. The "Dr." told me to write my feelings down to help cope with the anxiety I feel and what better way to do so than to let you all know how things are progressing....LOL.

I had an awesome father's day and was able to take my dad up to Ely, Nv. for a little fishing trip with the grand kids. I think he enjoyed watching me with some sort of satisfaction as I baited and untangled line, removed hooks, baited again and all the fun frustration with taking a 4 yr. old and a 12 yr. old fishing!.....remember when?

We all had a blast and made some more memories to look back on.
Along with those memories I was lucky to find a 6 point elk shed as we were walking back to the truck from a little coyote huntin!.....A little omen maybe?

Then as if that all wasn't enough when I got back home my lovely wife had informed me that I had a new Martin Pantera bow to play with!!!......Thank you sweetie I love it!
Thus began the set up and breaking in of my new bow. I'm gonna try to shoot at least 15 arrows a day and hit the 3d range hear in vegas once a week until August 28!.....DAY 1 of rehab..

So, what to do while I'm sitting at home trying to block out the anxiousness that eats at me day and night?..... Well since I can't go scouting everyday in the hills I can do a little scouting via maps and the internet!! Thank god for the internet huh? Well here's what I do....

When I come home from work I kiss the wife and kids hello....God bless a good woman!

Shower....

Get on the computer and study my hunting area via google earth until I've seen it from every direction, twice!! LOL...
When I'm burned out there, I'll grab a map and study it for awhile.

When my eyes can't focus any longer on the topo map......Grab a good book to read such as "Backcountry Bowhunting" by Cameron Hanes..... Geeeeeez, He is an iron man.
Or Chuck Adam's "Life At Full Draw". Wow he truly is an icon to those of us who "think" we're hunters.
Both of those books I'm reading for the second time!
Anyway, thats about the gist of a typical day at my house these days.....P.S. 15 arrows a day too!!!!

Hey everyone, I finally got up to my hunting area July 9, 2010!
We were able to see lots of animals and saw a couple of really good bulls. I even got one on video thru the spotter!.... Man it felt good to get up there and check it out! We pretty much covered the entire area in two days and were still able to see about 20 bulls, from spikes to a big 6X6. It pays to have friends with good eyes and good equipment! LOL......

Well hope you all enjoy these videos and pics.....

STAY TUNED!...

Well ladies and gentlemen the moment alot of you have been waiting for is here!; opening weekend for deer and cow elk here in Nevada!..... hope all of you the best!..........As for me I still have about 30 days till crunch time...UGH!

I'm going scouting again this weekend and hope to maybe put a marker on a big bull!.....I feel a little better after each trip and seeing game really calms the anxiety...

As the day draws nearer I can't help but to feel a slight shortness of breath thinking about drawing my bow back on a big mature bull.....the snap of my release.....seeing the arrow disappear behind the shoulder....and the humble excitement of walking up and putting my hands on his majestic antlers....

THIS IS GONNA BE FUN!....... yea I have to remind myself that its called "hunting"....and there are no guarantees!......

MORE PICS and VIDEO after the trip......

Hey there everyone! I hope your hunting seasons have started well!

I was able to get up to my hunting area again on August 1, 2010 and take a peek at some more potential spots.

Though we only spotted 3 bulls, we did see a sweet area that will most likely be my spot come the opener!

The're getting some rain and thats good! The country up there is so beautiful, and the sunsets are awe inspiring!!!

Well this is all I've got this time...

Here's where I'm camped for now... until the hunt begins then I'll head for the hills...

Hey everyone!,

I made it back up to my hunting grounds for the 3rd scouting trip! It was a good trip, we saw some more bulls and great sign!

And so, after hundreds of miles on the pick-up, and lots of gas, 3 flats between all of the trips, looking thru the spotting scope and binos till I actually felt cross-eyed, a half day building a ground blind, falling on my butt after a good rain, and good times spent with friends, I feel great!...LOL

With about 3 weeks till the opener I am ready for the hunt, ready for the excitement!, ready to conquer the anxiety within!

On August 27, 2010 I will have my bow in hand and a tag in my pocket!... that will be my first attempt to cure the "disorder" for good!

I hope you all will stay with me till the end... its gonna be good!

SHOOT STRAIGHT!

Until next time....... ENJOY!

Well hello there everyone!!! Hope all your hunts are going good and your having fun cause when it stops being fun STOP HUNTING I'll take your place!...LOL

This elk tag sure has turned me into some kinda freak!... The wife and buddies wives have declared us insane.

Never before have we decided on Saturday night to drive 180+ miles on Sunday morning just to check one trail camera !!!

Really?... Yea thats what my brother "DR. PW".. my awesome friend "EYEMAN"...and another buddy and I did this past weekend!!!

After the 3 hour drive we anxiously...theres that word again... hiked in to the spot where the trail cam is. I was very surprised to see that it had taken 54 pics!

You should have seen all 4 of us huddled around this one little digital camera oohing and awwing! we sounded like a couple of school girls...LOL

After viewing them all and making another spot for the blind we headed back to the truck and came home.. just that quick, oh what fun!

Here is the results after the camera had been up for one week...PRETTY COOL !!!!

Hey Everyone!,
Well it looks like most of the Hunter Challenge participants are having some good luck so far!!! Send some my way guys!! LOL.....Congrats on some fine animals to those who have been successful!!!..

As for me I had a great weekend of hunting!!

I headed out friday Aug.27 with my 12yr.old and my great friend/brother. We were able to get up to the hunting area and set up in the blind....

When we arrived at the blind I quickly checked the trail cam... I noticed it was not in the same position I had left it in!!! First thought was that someone had moved it ...so I quickly took out the SD card to check out the pics!! Apparently a dog-gone horse used the tree and my trail camera to scratch an itch!!! There were a few pics of some elk but nothing I was hoping for. The rest of about 80 pictures were of horses arssss!

Anyway we set in the blind and were blessed to have a cow and a calf come in, but because of the howling wind she got a little nervous and didn't hang around long....

On Sunday Morning we went to another spot and were on the trail only a few minutes and heard a bugle!!! instant adrenalin baby.... we put it in high gear and located the bull and his 15 cows!!

Turns out it was a 330 ish 5X5!!!......HE WAS ABOUT TO BECOME THE CURE!

As we closed the distance to 75yards the cows were on a mission to get up high and out of the sun and the bull wanted nothing to do with leaving them for our pleading meeeews!! LOL LOL

It didn't take long for them to leave us breathless and wondering why they don't call elk some kind of GOAT!

We headed back to the truck and packed it up to head home with a great memory of a close encounter with.... A GOOD NEVADA BULL!!!

UNTIL NEXT TIME..... HUNT HARD AND SHOOT STRAIGHT!!!!

Well hello everyone!

I'll post more later but.............

THE ANXIETY IS GONE
THE HUNT FOR A GOOD NEVADA BULL IS OVER

AND THE DREAM LIVES ON!!!!

I'M EATING TAG SOUP ON A HUNT OF A LIFE TIME!!!!

Heres a quick detail of the hunt for the cure;

Wind and extremely dry conditions.

Mature bulls were not rutted up.

adolescent bulls would come to the call but the big bulls were stuck to single cows or groups of cows.

I watched a cow and a calf lead a 380 Bull directly away from my brothers seductive cow calls

In 11 days of hunting I launched two arrows, both which were miss ranged and flew high.

One of those two arrows is being carried around in the left antler of a heavy 5X5!

I had 3 other small bulls at 20 yrds. or less...350 was my mark!

My brother and I hiked an average of 4 miles on foot with 20lb. packs every day.

awoke at 3:30 a.m. went to bed at 10:00 p.m every day

any way thats a quick summary! Thanks for coming along with me folks and I'll post up some video and pics here in the next few days........
