Shipping Question

Question regarding the trophies coming home. I have been informed that my trophies will be ready to ship within a couple of weeks. Normally how long after they leave and hit the airport before I can expect to see them at the taxidermist? I realize they go through customs in RSA, then to customs in the States then to USDA certified taxidermist then to where I want them shipped. Is this weeks or months? They are shipping via air frieght from RSA to the states; no boat. Just wondering people past experience.

good question, i am going in may and would like to know also if it there are multiple places that ship or if you are stuck with one option. My PH is telling me $85 to dip and ship each, what are we looking at for total per animal or is it by poundage?

It should all get done in a timely manner if going airfreight. My shipment in 2009 left South Africa and was in San Francisco in about 3 days via Swissair. I cleared and collected my trohpies myself, it's easy to do.

My experience mirrors what is posted above. It will arrive stateside in just a couple days going by air. Unless you are clearing your trophies yourself, however, it will take some additional time to get them cleared and on to the taxidermist. Unless you live near one of the few ports of entry for USFWS inspection, you pretty much have to hire an agent. This can easily add another week or two to the process, and significant cost. My trophies are usually ground shipped to the taxidermist once in the states, adding maybe another week. While I am usually informed every step of the way once they are on the plane, it can easily be 2-3 weeks before they are actually at the taxidermists. All of this is really dependant on your physical location and proximity to the airport of entry, so it will vary by the individual.

I had critters shipped from South Africa in 2010...after they left the taxidermist's shop in RSA it took about three weeks for them to make it all the way to the taxidermist here in the Utah.

To answer another question, all told once I paid for dipping and packing, export licenses (or fees or whatever), freight from RSA to California, import agent fees, and freight from Cali to Utah my grand total per animal was almost exactly $250. The process does a good job of nickle and dime'ing you...haha...but it is what it is.

Good luck with the shipment!

Wired the freight costs to the freight agency today. Once received they will be sent to Fauna/Flora in NY and then onto the taxidermist. The should be in route within the week and headed home. Nice to see some progress.

I was informed that my stuff arrived in Atlanta on the 21st and now onto NY to clear customs. Every day is a day closer.

Stinky, Woodruff, any news on your trophies?

Last I checked, mine should be shipping from SA at the end of this month. They are just waiting on the Tanning of the Zebra, Impala, and Wildabeest hides. They'll ship to Washington and then directly to Kevin's.

Looking forward to getting them back. I am having our warthog tusks carved as well. It will be interesting to see how they turn out.
