I shot (2) Zebras on my Safari. I was amazed at the drastic color difference. One is a lot more white the other a lot more black. They are both Burchell's Zebra Stallions.

Hunted both of them in the mountains in seperate areas. The one was in a pass about 50 yards from the top and the other right on top. I was wrong when I thought Africa was mostly flat. Not where I was at.

THOSE ZEBRAS ARE BEAUTIFUL......THATS ONE OF MY TOP CHOICES ON A SARFARI. SOME WHAT DIFFERENT IN COLORATION BUT BOTH GREAT LOOKING IN MY OPINION......CONGRATS.........YD.

However many times I might be fortunate to go to Africa, I will always shoot a zebra. They are just an amazing trophy IMO.

That second zebra is very unique. Both of them are great trophies!!!

i recently shot a bone zebra in zambia which is a lot like a mountain zebra but they are so contrasting in black and white with no shadow striping that it is amazing. i will post pics later.

Had several people say "I cannot believe you shot a horse!" I told them I cannot explain it and won't try but it was so cool that I did not shoot (1), I shot (2). They have no idea and I really don't know how to explain but I am excited for the shoulder mount and rug both.

LJ.....FOR ME A ZEBRA IS AT THE TOP OF THE AFRICAN ICON LIST, A ZEBRA MEANS AFRICA TO ME. I LOVE TO WATCH LIONS BRING THEM DOWN, GREAT FOOTAGE...............YD.

Littlejoe, that bottom Burchells is very unusual and beautiful. The top zebra is a classic looking Burchells, with only moderate shadow striping.

Stinky, you're the only guy I've ever heard refer to a 'bone' zebra. The three main zebra species are Burchells, Hartmanns Mountain Zebra and Grevys Zebra. Unless 'bone' is some SCI classification made up to provide another category for guys who need recognition of their prowess as collectors, someone was pulling your leg, I fear.

Does anyone have any pics of Grevys or Hartmanns that they can post? I think both of those species are more beautiful than Burchells.

By the way, a well made rug will last a very long time. I'm sitting here typing in front of a nice Burchells mare rug that I took on a 1983 Zimbabwe safari. It's still in good shape, even though we walk on it.

Another with patern down back on Hartmann's. The color fade from black to orange on the face is amazing. Another thing I thought was interesting is the Burchells had yellow fat like a horse, but the hartmanns had white fat. We did not get a chance to eat zebra but was told the hartmanns has alot better flavor than the burchells.

What stinky is referring to as a "bone" zebra is just the esstern version of a burchells or grants... all one in the same. The Zambian version as well as the zebra found in southern Tanzania and northern Moz are strikingly beautiful. Small striping with no shadow with striping extending all the way to the hoof. Some refer to them as "Selous" zebra. They make a wonderful rug, IMO. Stinky's is a beautiful trophy.

Hartmanns are a great rug too. They have the distinct "gridiron" pattern on the top of their flank and the ragged flag ends of each stripe ending on the side of his belly.. Plus the hunt is a real treat. They'll give you a run for your money. A must have for anyone going to Namibia.

Grevy's are the most beautiful of all of them. Pity you cannot hunt them. They are found in Kenya and there is no more hunting there as of 1977. I believe they are lited as endangered as well. They have tiny bold stripes, much bigger body than other zebra with a much more robust head and very diff shaped (very large cupped shaped) ears.

Zebra are a great trophy and do indeed make great fillets on the braii fire.

Gorgeous Zebras. It's fascinating the variations in density and frequency of their stripes. Congrats on two tremendous trophies.

Ist time I went to Africa I wasn't interested in a zebra. Didn't kill one. 2nd trip was part of the package, took one and was a great hunt. Now I've taken 3 and will be one animal along with kudu that I will always take if given the opportunity.
