I recently bid on and won a trip for two with numzaan safaris for 750$. It is for two people 7 days and two impala. I imagine they do this with the hopes you will shoot more animals while you are there. My question is if you only had 4 to 5 grand to spend would you go for one really cool animal or get the most bang for your buck and squeeze as many cheaper animals in as you could? If so which ones?

I would take the money you have 4-5 grand and get the spiral horned group kudu, nyala, bushbuck, eland.

A lot of times these type of hunts are set up with inflated trophy fees. I don't know how much 4-5 grand would get you on this kind of hunt. What are the trophy fees for kudu, nyala and eland? I agree with lhrbull, these make great trophies. I would look at a warthog and zebra as well. Trying to shoot a few animals while there would be a better experience I think than just shooting one.
Also, some outfitters place minimum day requirements for some species.
I hope you have a great trip.

After looking at his pricelist I might have to let the Eland or Nyala go and add a Gemsbok. Bushbuck ,Kudu, Gemsbok are $5026

Those are very high trophy fees. Kudu are often $1,200-1,500. Bushbuck should be under $1,000 and so should Gemsbok or at most $1,200.

You're right - they get you there with a cheap hunt price. Still, should be a great time!

Trophy fees, plane tickets, dip/ship or taxidermy, tips, trophy shipping, etc, etc, etc. If you really only plan to spend an additional 4 to 5 K, you may not be shooting much else. I went last year and ended up spending about 17K for 8 animals. Take a look and all the costs and decide which animals you'd like to hang on your wall. There are only two kinds of hunters in the world - those who haven't been to Africa and those who can't wait to go back!
