WE ARE PLANNING (TWO COUPLES) TO DO A RSA PLAINS GAME HUNT THE FIRST TIME AROUND TO AFRICA. I KNOW A LOT OF OPERATORS PROVIDE GREAT HUNTING ON PLAINS GAME. THE WIVES REALLY WANT TO STAY IN NICE CAMP WITH MOST OF THE COMFORTS AVAILABLE. THEY ARE TALKING REALLY NICE AMENITIES. CAN ANY OF YOU FELLAS RECOMMEND A OUTFITTER THAT FITS THIS BILL???? WE WOULD LIKE TO RIFLE & BOW HUNT AS WELL.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME ............YD.

I may have some ideas for you. Most camps over there are very nice. What kind of amenities will they need to be happy.Have someplace that you can do alot of shooting compared to some places. With some towns and parks near that should keep the ladys happy.Send me a pm if you want some more info

I agree with billc. Give us a better idea of your (wife's) idea of nice. Do you want a camp with five star meals, silk linens and other "girlie" stuff? Or do you want to be close to towns, shopping, museums, etc.? Or do you just want a really nice lodge where they can relax, be treated like royalty, enjoy some game watching and nature activities.
To each his own, but there are many definitions of "nice".
Bill

THANKS FOR THE HELP FELLAS !!! I BELIEVE SHE WOULD BE HAPPY IN A REALLY NICE LODGE, WITH SOME NATURE AVAILABLE, RELAXATION, A BAR, SOME DAYS SHE WANTS TO GO OUT AND WATCH ME LOOK FOR ANIMALS. WE WILL TAKE IN THE TOWN SIGHTS BEFORE WE GO TO THE HUNTING GROUNDS.

THANKS DAN......AS I GET MORE INTO RESEARCH I WILL E-MAIL YOU. I HOPE WE CAN PULL THIS OFF......AS THE AFRICA HUNT TRAIN HAS ALREADY JUMPED THE TRACKS ONCE. I DO APPRECIATE THE HELP FELLAS.................YD.

I went last spring break with my daughters.

Some thoughts....
Africahunting.com has some great deals from various outfitters that post there. You can also look up ratings on some outfitters there.

I posted there describing exactly what I wanted and many outfitters sent me PMs offering deals. Some didn't even look at what I asked for before sending PMs. Some did and actually sent some neat offers.

If I were to do it again, I would fly over and spend at least one day (probably two)chilling in a local motel before going on safari. The reason is the jet lag. My daughters and I were wiped out and jumped right into stuff due to time constraints. The result was that we cannot remember much of what happened those days.

There are some damned good outfitters and there are some rip-off artists. Be careful and look for recommendations/ratings.

I am trying to go back again in 2015 with my youngest daughter. This time it looks like we will be going on a shark dive and then safari!

Here is one point that will save you tons of cash... Shipping trophies home is EXPENSIVE. When I go again, I will take a lot of photos but leave the stuff in Africa. I will make sure the outfitter knows that I don't need the biggest baddest trophy. Representative animals will do just fine.

Have fun. The planning and preparation is half the fun.

My daughter and I hunted with Limcromia safaris last year and their lodge is great ,cooking superb and they can set up day trips for the wife.I would never leave my trophies there at least do euro mounts and ship back hides. If not you just as well go on a photo safari.I don't feel like we missed a thing by not staying in a city for a few days.Actually the sooner I got out of Joberg and the small towns we went through the better.

Just checked in after being away for awhile. I see billc is on here and he can vouch for what I have to relay.

There almost seems to be a bidding war going on over at AfricaHunting.com! There are lots of very nice deals being posted under the Hunting Deals tab.

My earlier trip was with KMG Safaris and he is posting some nice trips. I am very much looking into a trip with a young outfit called Tootabi Safaris and he is posting some great packages too.

There are a few other outfits pitching good deals too. But the two outfits mentioned above seem to be trying to outdo each other! It has been fun to check in every other day to see what is new. My daughter and I are looking at a hunt combined with a shopping trip and shark dive package!

I know many will disagree with me, but when I'm looking at African hunts, the last thing I'd be basing my hunt on would be the price. There are tons of competitively priced safaris, so I'd go with a quality outfit in a quality area at a favorable time of year for the animals I want to hunt. You don't need to just go with a bottom feeder. Like in so many things in life, you often get what you pay for. Getting screwed by a cheap operator on an African safari would rank as a low point in anyone's hunting career, and it happens more than you realize.

Caveat Emptor!

The biggest mistake of hunting south africa is a cheaper hunt is not a good hunt. There are alot of deals as less hunters have the money to go.I make good deals and get all the service and hunt some great areas with out paying 400 a day or crazy trophy fees.It can be done just need to find a place that they own some land not lease everything for the most part.

I have never gone but people tell me that the Eastern Cape has a lot better scenery is that true?

Will be my first trip to the east caoe this year.I have hunted in the northwest and northern cape area only.I have heard the east cape is more mountains and hills then the areas I hunted.Seems to stay greener longer also.I think all the areas have something about them that makes them different but enjoyable.Just watch out once you go you will want to go back.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-05-14 AT 09:00AM (MST)[p]Yukondall,
I don't have much time to write this since I have a meeting in a few minutes, so PM me if you want to talk.

Last Feb 2013 at the Expo my wife and I booked a trip and spent Aug 26-Sept 13th with Motchwere Safaris in the Limpopo Region of RSA.

In a nutshell we had the time of our life. Shot seven animals, could have shot a hundred. Lodging and food was great. I talked to every PH in the Expo for prior three years before booking with Motshwere. No one could beat their package and your wife goes for free.

I've attached pics of our animals.

PW.......THANK YOU FOR THE REPORT & PICS. HAPPY YOU HAD A GREAT HUNTING EXPERIENCE. I WILL EXPLORE THE WEBSITE, THOSE ARE SOME REALLY NICE EXAMPLES OF THE SPICES FOR SURE. THIS COULD BE WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR. THANKS YOU !!!..................YD.

Hunting in the east cape will remind many folks of hunting some hill country in Wyoming or maybe eastern Montana. Lots of large mountains / hills, and some wide open country. Of course the thick brush is also present in the riparian areas. Right on the coast is considerably more dense than 50 miles inland, so even some major variations within the province. I've hunted the Baviaan Conservancy twice, as well as within 5 miles of the Indian ocean. Two very different experiences. Lots of variety in this province if you pick your spot carefully.
Good Luck.

Hunted South Africa in 2012. That's what struck me - country that reminded me of everything from Hawaii to Nebraska to Arizona! Can't wait to go back.
