Botswana PG

I am torn between a hunt in Northern Namibia and one in central Botswana this year for PG. I know the Nambian operator but do not know the Botswana outfit other than reputation. My wife travels with me when I am OCONUS. Camp life for her while I am out spooking about is important.

Any of you fellows ever hunt central Botswana? Is it generally a safe area?

You don't say who or exactly where you will be hunting in Botswana, but it is generally a very safe country. I wouldn't have any fears about taking my wife.
There is likely some differences in species between Namibia and Botswana, but again, it all depends upon the exact properties. Both destinations can be a great hunt.

This outfit is about 60,000 hectares of private land bordering the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. It is right in the middle of Botswana and not really in the malaria areas. I think my biggest concern is the different strains of hepatitis that may or may not be found in the bushmen of the area. CDC advice is so general that it considers all of Botswana to be the same. To CDC the delta is the same as the Kalahari. They do the same for Namibia but there is a vast difference between the Caprivi and most of the rest of Namibia.

Usually the only time my wife will not travel with me is when I visit a malaria area but some of the hepatitis issues have her worried. I was hoping to find someone that had spent some time near the CKGR but that is not a common area for U.S. hunters.

Jumping back and forth, I seem to have lost my message to you. Contact Jason for the straight skinny on Botswana hunting. He is here in the States right now, and heading for the SCI Convention in Vegas.

I will be hunting with Jason at Tholo in June with my 14 year old son and my dad. I'll let you know when I get back. This will be my first time to Africa.
