A little story from my diary.

After having had an unreal few days and taken many animals. Barry asked me what I wanted to do after having taken a Duiker, Kudu and Grysbok the day before.

We were on Day 10 and the last day of the safari.

I was just happy to be there. The weather was perfect and I told Barry I did not care what we did as I was just happy to be there. I told him that I would gladly look for another Kudu bull.

He said we were going to go to an area where the Kudu transition during the morning from bedding areas to feeding areas and that there were usually Eland in the area as well.

We saw some Kudu and a group of three Eland with one very large black faced bull but Barry said to leave him for a while and look for kudu and then go back and look for him if we did not find a big Kudu bull.

We looked at several Kudu bulls but none were as big as the bull that I had already taken.

We worked our way over a ridge and across from us there were some cows and bulls feeding.

Immediately Barry told me to get ready the one was for sure a shooter bull.

They either winded us or something and were on alert. All of the cows and young bulls took off but the big bull stood his ground and did not flinch. All we could see was his face, horns and neck.

Barry told me that he was 304 yards and asked how I felt about the shot and if I was comfortable.

I told him yes, I was good to go. He said to put it on his neck and take him.

I put the cross hair right in the middle of his neck/chest and slowly squeezed the trigger.

He immediately collapsed to the ground. There was a lot of excitement from Barry, Benji and Puren and at that point I knew he was really big. I thought he was big but thought some of the others were as well.

Barry told me that is why people come here is for a bull that big and we had not even walked up to him yet.

We made our way through the thick stuff quickly and there he lay.

He was magnificent. He was in his prime. Huge body, perfect color, great hide and large horns. He is one of the best bulls that will be taken there this year for sure and tapes just shy of 50".

For an Eastern Cape Kudu he is very large. They are smaller in body and horn size than the Greater Kudu that is hunted in countries to the north of S.A.

We all celebrated a great morning and what a bull and culmination of events on this safari. I was on cloud nine. It does not get any better than this.

This was number 15 taken on this trip. Nothing like leaving the best for last; whoops; almost the last. More to follow. What a last morning animal. What a trophy. He is just amazing.
