Would like to hunt RSA in a couple of years and take the wife. Looking for a hunt but also safari type for her. Nothing in particular but would like a Gemsbok and a few plains animals. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Going to take some time to save up, going to be my retirement trip

Jules of the Karoo is where I'm going with my wife next had a great trip with her to Chamanzi Zulu Safaris through Cabelas

If you want your wife to have as good a time as you, check out Jofie Lamprecht Safaris. He's in Namibia and very first rate operation.

There are a lot of quality operators in both RSA and Namibia. Jon Olefse safaris in Namibia is a top operation. Madabula in RSA is worth considering.

But before you try to focus on a particular PH, you need to decide what you want from this trip. A luxury resort with french chefs and some absolutely stunning accommodations? - Consider Mkuze in RSA.
A ranch style hunt fairly similar to Montana, but with mountains teeming with African game - consider the east cape in the Winterberg mountains.
A traditional "thornbush" safari somewhat akin to Texas hunting, but many tourist attractions somewhat close by (like Kruger) - than think about the Limpopo province.
A camp with some American influence and truly remote country, with exceptional variety of animals, including 4 of the big 5 - then check out Olefse.

These are all great trips. And just simple one sentence descriptions of each, but they all have so much more to offer. You may not even appreciate the variety of options available in southern Africa, but it is a lot like trying to compare hunts in North America. A whitetail hunt on the east coast is nothing like an elk hunt in the Rockies or a Coues hunt in AZ. They are all great, but it helps if you know what you are looking for to make sure your expectations are met.

Don't want a fancy hunt, maybe a ranch hunt. Would like to be able for her to see lots of different animals. I only want to hunt plains game with a Gemsbok in particular

I'd look at Andre Viljoen. I small operator that can personalize your hunt to fit your needs. My wife and I have been twice and he's a great guy. He's a PH instructor which means meets land owners who are taking his course and therefore always finding new places to hunt. www.besthunt.co.za.

I can help you out. I help book hunts for paw print safaris. WE specialize in family style hunts at a fair price. WE hunt the northwest prov. or the limpo prov. for all the different plains game animals. You can email or pm me here. My email is capwe6@aol

+1 on Jules of the Karoo. Had the time of my life. Jullian, Martisan, and Izak are good people they will take care of you.

One more recommendation. Think about Tholo Safaris in Botswana. Go over to Accurate Reloading and read some of the hunt reports on them, especially 'dogcat's' new report titled 'Plains game and bunny huggers'. I hope to go with them next year.
