If anyone is considering an African hunt in the near future, there are some fantastic deals floating around right now.

Cape Buffalo in the Save Conservancy for under $9,000

Western Buffalo in Burkina Faso for $7,500

Just saw a great Mozambique Buffalo and plains game safari discounted $400 per day from the regular rate

Tholo is still cheaper than a good guided elk hunt.

More good deals to be had. Time to go to Africa!!!

Wasn't going to go back to Africa,....but, got a deal that I couldn't pass on.

Booked with Tholo, May of 2018, group hunt.

from the "Heartland of Wyoming"

Dan,

That's exactly where I'm leaning toward going, though not on that group hunt. They do have prime dates though.

I'm headed to the East Cape in May to hunt with Rhinoster Hoek on a cull hunt. Eight cull critters, including 1 kudu bull and 2 cows, for under 3000. Trophies can be added in at 10% discount to boot! He has a fair number of kudu but at the moment I am leaning towards a black wildebeest. There was big pod of bachelor bulls that tempted my trigger finger the last time I was there. Held off and took a tremendous steenbok an hour later. Love the tiny ten.

Once done there, I am headed to hunt with a new outfit called LJ Safaris. He was able to secure an oribi permit for me! If time allows, I plan on looking over the rest of this young guy's concessions so that I can report. I hope to have enough scratch to add on a bushbuck or Vaal rhebok.

I was able to secure flights for under a thousand! I hit two sales correctly to see that pay off!

Yes, with just a little searching you can find airfares to Johannesburg for about $900 round trip from the west coast. I just priced one from San Francisco to Main, Botswana through JNB and round trip was about $1,125.

Nice on the airfare.

I believe my next Africa trip will either be in Namibia or Tanzania. It will take a little more saving for the latter but I think it will be closer to the "Africa" experience that I ultimately want.

After posting my last, I went on AH and there are plenty of good deals to look through.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-13-17 AT 00:27AM (MST)[p]Gold hunter, Accurate Reloading is one of the very best places you can visit if you're interested in African hunting. Lots of guys who hunt Africa, some Professional Hunters and some good booking agents. If you spend some time on there, you'll start to get ideas about who good operators are.

For flights, you can do a lot of research by using Google Flights.

Ruttinbull, the difference between Namibia and Tanzania is huge. Kind of opposite ends of the cost spectrum.

I'm actually planning a Tanzania hunt, possibly for 2018 but more likely in 2019 in the Selous with Alan Vincent. Will probably hunt with Tholo late this year unless I find a cancellation or late special on AR.

I'm aware of the difference.... just both on the bucket list.

Before either hunt, I want to hunt Europe for Roe. Just a simple little hunt. I am hoping to do that one next year.

Ruttinbull, seems we have the same tastes!

Where are you thinking of hunting toe deer? Lots of interesting options out there.

If it was a perfect world, I'd like to hunt roe in Germany or Austria. I have a friend who went to Romania and raves about the outfit he used. It would be fun to take the wife, hunt 2 roe, and then do a little tour of the castles and such.

there was a hunt for Namibia offered not too long back that made me regret (for a moment) having already booked in RSA. He sold that hunt in very short order and I was glad for it as I didnt need any more temptation. My RSA hunt will be a modest one actually, mostly culls. It is more about spending time around the brai with a beer and making new friends.

I have no desire to hunt any of the big five other than a Cape Buff someday. When it's done, I want as close to pure "old" Africa as I can get. It will cost but that is one hunt that I want done as a "purist."

I'd love to finish the tiny ten. Not too excited about a blue duiker, but might substitute another of the duikers to customize my "ten." Vaal Rhebok seem to be getting a lot of press recently, I have wanted that one for quite some time now. Looking forward to the oribi hunt in May.

At the moment, my eyes are bigger than my wallet.

I've always been interested in roe deer, though I've never hunted them. I always thought I'd like to hunt them in Hungary, Romania or possibly Kazakhstan. If I'm not mistaken, the Siberian roe deer are larger than their European cousins. Of course, the two countries you mentioned, along with Wales, are also great destinations.

Back to Africa... helluva deal on buffalo in Zim advertised this morning. Argh.

I need to ban myself from these different sites and just save $ for a few years.

Locally, it looks like my mule deer and black-tail deer might be struggling a bit with the snow. I think the black-tail are in better shape.

Sage rats are beginning to poke out and I have nearly a case of 22 ammo waiting for them. Today will be a clean up day around the house to keep Momma happy so I can play in the weeks to come.
