Someone please help me pick a good outfitter for Plains game there's just so many of them. And they all sound good..

As I just mentioned in the other thread you started, Tholo Safaris in Botswana is an excellent option for a Great Plains game hunt. Their website is www.tholosafarisbotswana.com

Some other options you might want to consider would include Spear Safaris in South Africa, www.spearsafaris.com. Both kilbuc and I have had excellent hunts with them.

Jofie Lamprecht Safaris in Namibia is another great option. Www.jlsafaris.com. I'll be hunting with Jofie one of these days, he's very highly regarded.

There are a number of really good options, depending on where you want to go, what you want to hunt, how much time you have and your budget.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of the three I've highlighted above.

It all depends on what you want and what are your expectations. A good place to look is Africa hunting forum. Look in the deals section and you can also look up hunt reports for outfitters. If you cant find a hunt report for an outfitter you are considering, ask questions or move on to another outfitter.

Many places in South Africa are high fenced. Large operations, you will never see the fence. Some animals such as warthogs, duikers and such go through or under the fence and it does not matter. I always ask about the size of the concession, if it is fenced or free-range.

If you are planning on going this year, you may wish to ask about how they are doing with the drought. Some areas are experiencing losses due to drought.

I have hunted with KMG Safaris and with Tootabi Hunting Safaris and had a good time. In May I will be going with Rhinoster Hoek Safaris and LJ Hunting Safaris. All of these operations are in the East Cape of South Africa.

Spear Safaris and Tholo Safaris mentioned above have good track records and I have seen good reports but I have never hunted with them.

Good Luck

Never hunted with them but seem to see them on TV alot.

Tell us what you want to do and accomplish and that is a good place to start. Just you or wife or friends? If you are taking a wife, you might want a place that can pamper her. If you just have buddies, then maybe a little more rustic.

Some critters are found in certain areas, while others are fairly universal. For instance, if you want a Damara Dik-Dik, you might want to rule out the East Cape.

Most want a kudu on their first trip. The price of kudu varies from as low as 850 ish to well over 2000 depending on where you are at.

Have you looked at Africa Hunting Forum. The deals page is loaded with good deals. The money exchange is still very good in RSA and the outfitters want US dollars. Dealing is very possible.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-12-17 AT 11:03AM (MST)[p]TommyC, while I have no first hand experience with Limcroma and a lot of people like them, there is a thread over on AR that discusses a disaster with Limcroma. Without going into all the details, I believe the group of hunters are actively engaged in litigation with Limcroma. Might want to be extra careful and really do your homework if considering them.

I am the usa rep. for paw print. We hunt the limpo and northwest areas. Hunt on areas from 5000 to 15,000 acreas. Some fenced all four sides and then a few only fenced 3 sides. We have areas for free range kudu and bushbuck also in the limpo.

We hunt the great kudu which is bigger then what you will find in the east cape and overall quality on most animals will be better. Right know prices are right to hunt SA. WE have very limited space left other then in sept and oct and booking for 2018 also. Feel free to email me if I can help with anything at all. [email protected]

I have never been but I would sure get educated on how to preserve your capes, spending up to $150,000 and have rotting capes would be a disaster and it happens.

RE: need help finding a outfit

Whatever you decide stay far away from Aaron Neilson and Global Hunting Resources. He has many prior clients who have been very dissatisfied with his services as a booking agent. He will lie to make any sale. Even some of his former business partners, Safari Outfitters in Cody, Wyoming, got rid of him for shady business practices. He has many prior board actions from the Colorado Department of Professional Regulation and Licensing dating back to his days as an outfitter in Colorado. And he even admitted guilt in Kansas in the 90's for illegally guiding and hunting in Kansas without a license! Personally, I would recommend Savannah Safaris in northwest Namibia. They hunt the 1,000,000 acre Torra Conservancy. The large conservancies in northwest Namibia are far and away a totally better and wild hunting experience than any of the run of the mill 25,000 acre private hunting farms. Do your research. Most of the plains game hunting (shooting/killing) in South Africa occurs behind high fence. If you want to shoot an African plains game animal behind a high fence you can go to Texas and get all that nonsense you want!

Rambopup/Stu Mauney,

It's quite obvious you have some ax to grind against Aaron Nielson, as you also went on a rant against him over on accurate reloading on a Namibian elephant hunt he was offering. Why don't you tell us what happened to make you so hateful toward Mr. Nielson. You've totally trashed him on both websites now, but give no specifics. Please elaborate. While I've never booked a hunt through Aaron, I know people who have and were thoroughly pleased with the hunts he sent them on. I wouldn't hesitate to book through him based on anything I've heard from a number of hunters that do business with him.

So, please do tell us why you're spouting so much venom against him.

Stu, I'm guessing the letter you received from my attorney - and a few others I know, has done little to deter your defamatory / slanderous ways. No problem, we'll just take it to the next step.

Have a nice day,
Aaron

Stuart Mauney, or is it "Stan Montoya" like on AR, and any other "Aliases" you choose to go by nowadays? Interestingly enough, Saeed at AR was kind enough to provide me your IP address, and sure enough - one Stuart E. Mauney in Crawfordville, FL.

Stu, everyone knows what a lying scumbag a person is - when they have to hide behind a "phony" name to try and slander others!

See ya soon Stu!! :)

Kalahari Hunting Safaris in Namibia. I just returned from my 6th trip with them and as usual another great trip. Prices can't be beat. Around 100,000 acres to hunt lots of low fence and high fence which is necessary when you have Sable, Nyala,Golden Gemsbok etc. There is mountains and desert to hunt. The people and staff are wonderful I've sent many friends there with great results. Trophy quality is great with the very best Gemsbok you will find anywhere. Check out Kalaharihuntingsafaris.net
