Noise Cancelling Earmuffs

I have to say the one thing that I am absolutely positive of after the safari is that noise cancelling earmuffs are an absolute must. I have never worn them hunting just at the range and stuff but I took them to Africa. I took them with me on my first animal and on every subsequent animal. They saved my hearing! I have hunters ear really bad (that is what the ENT doctor called it) and after 16 animals in 10 days my hearing would have been absolutely toast. I will take them every chance I get. A must.

When actually out hunting, you'll find the 'in the ear' models much better than the larger muffs that go over the ears. Muffs can, and will, get caught on brush and over time will be more of a nuisance than many hunters will want to endure.

One great benefit from the inside the ear models, besides cutting out the loud volume of noise at a shot, is that they act like a hearing aid, and you'll hear things you haven't heard in a long time when you use them. So, when that elephant is bearing down on you, preparing to stomp you into red mush, you'll hear his footsteps really well! ;-)

CA, the biggest fear I have had with the in ear model is the fear of losing them or having them fall out. Is this a problem? I have never had an in ear set because I did not want to lose them. Is that a concern at all?

I guess you can loose almost anything (ask my son!), but I've never had any issue with my "Sport Ears" in the ear model. I've used these on several hunts over seas and in the states, and they really shine when there is a lot of shooting to be done. I personally keep the ear muff style for the range only.

I had my ENT connect a plastic cord from one hearing aid to the other, which pretty much eliminates the chance of losing them if they fall out. I should also add that a few of my friends have them without the cord and have never had one fall out.
