South Africa - Leopard Recommendation

I will be traveling to South Africa (Johannesburg area) during April and May of next year and would like to extend my stay to give myself some time to hunt.

Besides plains game, does anybody have a good recommendation for leopard hunts? Any ideas on average fees as well?

Thanks

Head north to Zim or the other surrounding areas for Leopard. They are expensive and you will need several days to make it happen. Baiting, bait animals, sitting, sitting and sitting. You will easily be 10k at a bare minimum. I would expect quite higher than that actually from a reputable outfit.

I'd highly recommend hunting leopards in Zimbabwe's lowveld. However, if you really do want to hunt them in South Africa, I'd recommend Ernest Dyason of Spear Safaris without hesitation. Ernest is an outstanding leopard hunter, and has taken some very big toms the last few years. He also happens to have very good plains game, including some exceptional kudu huntinng and cape buffalo. For a South African safari operator, you'd be hard pressed to find better, IMO.

You need to be very careful about leopard hunts in RSA. The quota in various regions is very small, and it usually requires considerable lead time to secure the permit. Some outfitters sell leopard hunts, even conduct the hunts, and then try to get the permit after the fact. It has been a recipe for disaster for several US hunters.
There are in fact legitimate leopard hunts in South Africa, and some very good operators. It is just extremely difficult to set up a properly legal leopard hunt on short notice. Countries such as Zim have far higher quotas, and a different system for issuing permits. And these hunts are typically less expensive than RSA, but no leopard hunt is cheap.
Good Luck.

The cheapest and best way I ca reck end a leopard is Namibia. The whole hunt will cost $10,500and success rates run 95%. All other leopard hunts are around $20,000 up to $45,000 in the CAR. Beware of any leopard hunts under $8,000 as they are usually scams especially in south Africa. As a general rule one should stay away from south Africa when considering leopards. Just my two cents.
