My son Nolan just turned eleven, and he was able to hunt here in Oregon through the youth mentor program. He was able to harvest this nice blacktail buck.

He is not the biggest guy quite yet, and in fact, he can't shoot free hand yet. So anyway, I built him a blind with a rest to sit in and he was insistant about sitting in it every night until this big guy showed up. This buck came out about fifteen minutes before dark at about 200 yards, and Nolan had a hard time finding him in the scope. Finally, during the last few possible minutes of light, Nolan found the buck in the scope and finished the deal at about 80 yards. He is really proud of this buck because it is bigger than anything his older sister and brother have killed.

Congrat's to Nolan that is a GREAT first buck. Good shooting and fine eating. It is great that your State has that type of program for youth. Thanks for sharing the story and Pic
