Here is another great Saskatchewan buck coming in the first week of the season. He grosses over 200

I started my stalk it felt like it took me forever but before I knew it I could see my brother after I rounded a big hill. I could see the hand signals coming and with a couple land marks I made before I left, he put me right on top of the buck 40 yards ? 30 ? 20 now I'm right on top of him. Here is a feeling that is unreal - I can see his rack sticking up out of the alfalfa, its hot, no wind, I'm out of breath, heart is pounding, my mouth is so dry when I try and swallow my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth, the adrenaline is pumping and I'm so excited that I'm here.

I try to calm down and catch my breath, I take my quiver off my bow and take an extra arrow out, neither deer has moved an inch so I try and whistle but nothing comes out, hence the dry mouth so I try kissing noises and nothing I didn't know how much longer I could sit so I started to talk to the deer, ?Hey buck, Hey buck stand-up? I did this a few times and nothing then I held my bow up over my head and waved it back and forth making the kissing noises and the little one got up. I drew my bow and held for a minute or 2 but felt like 5 and released it down as the big guy wouldn't stand up. The small buck starts to turn his back on me and walks away and I see the big antlers wave back and forth I draw, the buck stands quartering broad side to me, uphill with the alfalfa covering his bottom third. I squeeze my trigger, my arrow hits its mark high and drops him back into his bed instantly. I have another one nocked as he tried to get up making no mistake I put this one through both lungs, it was all over in seconds as he laid there motionless.

Question- is Sask like Mexico in that it's a big buck paradise with the only difference being locals only?? Seems like a deer zoo up there for the local yocals.

Congrats on an awesome buck!

There are only a couple of guys that post up big bucks on here from there. Yes they shoot a big buck but most likely they would be shooting big bucks where ever they hunt do to working hard for them. Most of the hunters up there are shooting similar bucks that everyone else in the lower 48 are. With the private land, I am sure it is easier to watch a particular buck but you still have to outsmart him...

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

Daaamn that one hellava deer!!!!! Congrats.... every year seeing these giant's come from up there makes me want to go... was it guided or a diy hunt?

Wow that is an awesome animal....be interested to see that buck again after you get it back from the Taxi...and also see the score once you measure it...beautiful buck. Great story and pics. Thanks for sharing....

Congrats on a super buck. If I lived in Sask, I'd go nuts just driving around and looking for and at bucks like the one you took. Great buck and great looking country.

Have you put a tape to him yet? Interested to see what he scores, not that it matters, he's a beauty that will look awesome up on the wall.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-12-13 AT 08:38PM (MST)[p]I put a tape to him the night I got home, I have him at 203 gross and I was pulling a tight tape just so there is no disappointment when he get the HK score. surprising how much your deer and this one look alike minus the drop tine.

The left side does have some similarities.

Thanks for all your great comments, I do work hard at it every year setting aside about 7-10 days just for mule deer. To answer some of the questions, All my hunts are DIY and yes there are some big deer up here but you have to put in your time to find them and then the work starts. Saskatchewan mule deer hunts are residents only, but whitetail is open for nonresidents guided in the north half of the province and there are some big one's up there.
Gator, my stalk was done with me wearing 5 or 6 pairs of socks as it was so crunchy and the last 15 yards was on my hands and knees!

Once again thanks to everyone here on MonsterMuleys it's a great place to learn and become a better hunter!
