My 13 year old son was fortunate enough to take this beautiful mule deer buck on opening day about an hour before dark. We were hunting a general season unit on public land. He connected with the buck and put it down cleanly with one shot from 30 yards. The buck went down right where he stood. We definitely made some memories that will never be forgotten.

Thanks for all the positive feedback from everyone. The only guides he had was his dad and grandpa. We have hunted this area for as long as I can remember, and we spent a lot of time scouting all summer. We actually have pictures of this buck in the velvet a month or so before the hunt. I will post the velvet pictures through the spotting scope as soon as I find them.

That thing is big enough to ride! Where's the saddle?

Like others said, I can only hope to take a buck that fine this year!

Congratulations young sportsman! You should be very proud! (you too dad)

Hey dth79,

Your boy will treasure the mount no doubt... but you will treasure the memories (as I'm sure he will too)! Congrats to both of you... well done!
