Thought I would share a buck my son shot this morning. Made a great 300 yd shot on this 31" buck. First velvet deer I have seen this late in the year. He had all his junk so don't really know what would cause this.

sometimes late fawns are behind all their lives.,,,,,is what an old trapper told me 20 years ago,?

Great buck but crazy cool. Was his junk at all damaged ? May have his junk but produces blanks

Nice Buck! I seen what looked like a big three point in full velvet last week in Colorado. I thought that was strange too. What State was this in?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-20-13 AT 06:17PM (MST)[p]Howdy,

Nature has its own way of insuring the survival of the species. The world (Habitats, and ecosystems) are in constant change. Species always have minority outliers within populations to insure survival. You will find if a normal rut occurs in the middle of December there will still be some girl somewhere trying to get bred in February. If there is a girl waiting to be bred then there will be a boy waiting to fight to breed her. If the offspring is born outside of the normal fawning season there is a higher chance of mortality and more than likely the fawn perishes. However if the ecosystem has changed and this later time period actually has better conditions for survival, over several generations you can see an entire population re-write its breeding season and timing.

Congrats on the deer.

Nice buck. I always see a couple every year like that in velvet and have picked up a few sheds that are still in velvet. Congrats.
