What do you guys think the chances are of drawing g with 5 in the regular? I could be mistaken but I think 5 pps last year was almost a lock.

I had 10 this year and applied with someone with 0 points giving us 5 points. We applied in the special to make sure we would draw. Glad we did as only 19% drew with 5 points in the regular draw this year. (We assumed it would be less than 50% this year). I think next year you will need 5+ points minimum to draw in the regular draw. It has been going up about a half a point per year.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-24-16 AT 04:06PM (MST)[p]Like I said in my post, I had max points and was chasing a late season 105/106/109 tag. That tag was still only about 25% odds even with max points. After a late season bull elk hunt in that same area I realized that late deer hunt was not worth half the points it took to draw. I'm not an expert but I don't think there is a better unit than g right now for a public land hunt. But it is not an easy hunt.

The problem is, there isn't anything else close that you can get with 6 points.

That is for sure and anyone that doesn't think G is worth 6 or 7 points needs to do a lot more research on it, as it is the best going in Wyoming IMHO.

My dad has 5 points in WY now... But the physicality required to hung Region G might dissuade him from hunting there now... We're really not sure what to do with his points now as G would be an obvious choice based on quality of hunt, but we might need something a little "easier" for him these days...

I'd take any suggestions out there. :)

BR, I am 1 off max points and looking for something too, was originally looking at G but may want my dad to come with. He won't have tag just to see new country. I'd say to simply use something like toprut.com and do a search for a unit with 4-7 points needed and narrow it down from there. Cut out all the units that are steep and nasty, mostly private etc... that should take it down to just a couple of units. Good luck

There are nice bucks to be had in G that dont require a guy to climb to 10k feet and hike 10 miles a day..

I've got max points, I'd be willing to apply with someone who could help me out. I've never stepped foot in G.

I hate to admit this, but I have built up points (I have 8) for deer and have not even thought about G due to high tag numbers, making it seem not as exclusive. What makes this unit so much better than the others that offer less tags and good dates?

Put in with me. I'll go to G with you. I've never been either but from what I found in H last year........let's just say if you want to go back where I was it will cost ya. : )

G and H will be tougher hunting next fall due to this winters heavy snow and cold. I'm not sure I'd burn the points on it for a few years.
