define "best"? easiest to draw? best trophy potential. easiest access. few people. buck to doe ratio. there are a few factors that different people will say is the best unit. on gohunt it shows you can draw most units with 3 points as a non resident for rifle. but i think that's an opinion based on what you know about specific units.

Well the best unit is the one you can spend the most time scouting & hunting in without costing you an arm and a leg. Southern, Central ,& northern utah have some good ones and some not so good ones. Also if you know an area you've hunted in the past that may be your best bet.

There isn't a good unit in Utah, but I heard that Wyoming has a ton of good areas.

I've got Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho covered. I want to burn my 3 general points this spring. I'll be living in south Utah county but still having my NR status.

I'm looking for a unit that I can scout, get away from some crowds, hopefully high glassable country, with 150+ potential.

Not afraid to glass hard and hike high and far

+1. Ridge has killed some stud bucks on the nebo! Great draw odds and lots of nice bucks. I haven't done too bad myself, on the nebo over the years

Also, is the nebo worth getting an early elk rifle tag once I become a resident or should I just hold out for the Manti?

I have 12 elk points right now.

1:1.1 for 3 points on the Nebo any weapon. It might change a bit this year because of the rule change regarding preference points.

Stu,
Believing everything you read on this forum could lead you down a bumpy road. I'd make sure you do your own serious research.
I am pretty confident Ridge has not been killing his great bucks on the Nebo. But that is not to say there aren't good bucks there.
Since the Nebo is close, that could be a great unit for you, but that is only likely if you do the scouting leg work for yourself and find some "honey holes". In my opinion, that is also true regardless of what unit you hunt. The Wasatch also holds some great bucks but also has a good deal of pressure.
I believe there are good bucks in every unit in the state, IF you are willing to put in the time to find them.
Best of luck

there's a thread back not that long ago ranking general units.

It more comes down to what unit you know, can scout, and how you hunt. 200" deer are taken the general hunt in Utah every year and 160 to 180" is do able but it takes scouting and knowledge or a lot of luck.

Oaker stansburry? Isn't that out by vernal? I saw his truck parked off the nebo loop once. Plus all his videos have big bulls in them. Pretty sure with the oaker unit having such great draw odds, he's not videoing all those big bulls there

How often can a resident draw the nebo?

How do all these units work with the dedicated hunter program?

I do tend to road hunt a lot, usually driving 300 or 400 miles a day.
Better have a full tank for the ride along.

"What's the best General deer unit for rifle as a NR with 3 points going into the draw?"

If that's still the question, I would offer this:

I hope it's not the Monroe, I live on the Monroe, I have hunting the Monroe for the last two years and I hope to heck that isn't the best General Season Unit in Utah.

Now, if killing a yearling buck is your primary objective, it may very well be the best. A week on the Monroe, during any of the archery, muzzleloader or rifle seasons, should provide a number of reasonable opportunities to kill a deer, if that is your only objective.

Then maybe a NR Utah GS deer tags isn't for you... especially if you already don't have any previous experience with a unit. And with 3 points, you'll only be able to draw the middle desired units. You'll need 5 plus to draw the top units in this state
